Down goes #4 KU

Typically the option to "play small" at the 4/5 isn't always a great one considering that those small guys have to play defense. You really feel that a 6'4" Burton is going to be a net + for a chunk of time going up against most of the players at the PF/C position in the Big 12? Alright. I guess we'll see soon enough. I have never seen the guy play at all so I'll take your word for it.

He's 6'4, has a 7 foot wingspan and is 250 lbs. Not saying he's going to be a world beater but he can fill in at the 4 if Niang or McKay is out. ISU is definitely going to better with him eligible rather than him being in sweats

KU is a 3pt shooter away from being a NC contender.
They have an elite three point shooter in Brannen Greene. The problem is that he a head case who is terrible at defense and did nothing to get himself a decent look at the basket against MSU. In 14 minutes against Northern Colorado, he went 5-5 from three (plus made three more that didn't count due to a foul being called on the floor before he shot it). Against MSU, he played 9 minutes and didn't even ATTEMPT a shot of any kind, let alone a three. Mind boggling.

Elite? He is a good 3 point shooter but not elite.

Agreed about better with versus without. KU's in the same boat with Diallo. It's frustrating that the NCAA is basically imposing a suspension on him by merely sitting idle on his case and not ruling on anything. Like I said, I have never seen Burton play at all. Sounds like he'll be a fun player to watch. Guys that short that are big enough to go down low tend to play like bulls and those guys are fun to watch so it should be entertaining.

KU needs better production from the guards particularly Selden. He needs the ball in his hands more than he did vs MSU. He seems to be at least as good at passing as Mason and can attack the rim, but it seems they forgot about him last night until that very late 3. Once he becomes more active, things open up for Ellis and the other guards will see more open 3's.

Elite three point shooters aren't head cases.

$50 says that if he stays healthy all year that he will shoot 50+% from 3 on the season. He was shooting 56% (and an even hotter 62.5% in Big 12 play) at the time of his hip injury Feb. 14th versus Baylor last year but didn't tell anyone he was injured until after the season ended and shot about 20% after the injury to end at "just good".

That's a pretty bold bet for a Junior that is a career 40% 3 pt shooter.

He only made 40 3's last year. Niang made 46, Naz made 77 FWIW

You mean KU players need to play better than they did last night? Call Bill Self, you've solved the mystery! I kid, I kid. Selden once again became a passive observer of the game last night, effectively removing himself from the game by floating around on the perimeter and not being more assertive. He got the ball plenty but was quick to just cycle it off to someone else. Occasional disappearing acts have been a common theme from Selden his whole career at KU. We hoped his alpha dog play at the WUG was a sign of better things to come but it appears that he will still battle this problem at least occasionally. Hope there will be more "good" Selden than "invisible" Selden.

Why do you keep referring to Burton as a 4/5 or PF/C. That just shows how ignorant you are. He will not play one single minute all year as the "5". McKay Niang and Nader are all more of a true post than Burton. He is a 3 that will play some 4 minutes as we are a little thin in the front court. To be honest, his game reminds me of a bigger, stronger probably more athletic Wayne Selden. Selden likely has the better guard skills however .

Greene's 40 threes were in 525 minutes. Niang's 46 threes were in 1,045 minutes. What's your point?

Feel free to go back and read the previous posts in this thread. We were specifically discussing Burton being used to replace Niang and McKay in the lineup. I use the 3/4/5 numbers to signify who they will be guarding on the opposition. Label it whatever you want, McKay will be guarding the opponent's biggest forward 99% of the time he is on the floor. Is he not ever going to come out of the game and if so, who will take on the burden of guarding the other team's biggest forward? 6'4" Burton? Will Niang? That's what we're talking about.

If Greene was an elite 3 pt shooter he would have played more than 525 minutes and would shoot better than 40% from 3.

See Tyrus McGee. Couldn't really defend anyone but made 96 3's and shot 46% from 3 his senior year. Greene is a good shooter who's below average at everything else...he's nowhere near elite and he won't shoot 50% from 3 this year

Yes and you feel free to read my previous post! Did you not see where I said McKay Niang and Nader are all more of a post presence than Burton? That accounts for offensively as well as defensively there smart guy. Burton will never ever guard a 5. Will rarely even guard a 4. 80% of his minutes will be at the SF spot.

So you are saying that Burton provides no addition depth to the front court. Thank you. that's what I was thinking as well.

If Greene was an elite PLAYER he would have played more than 525 minutes. The deficiencies of the rest of his game do not change his ability to knock down a three at a ridiculous rate. I stand by my claim. You disagree, no biggie. i remember McGee, he was one of those guys that you didn't dare leave him open for three or he was guaranteed to nail it. That to me is the definition of a great three point shooter. They are like closers in baseball with a small but very well defined purpose.
