Buddy Hield is scary good. I need to see this version of OU some more to assess. I certainly wouldn't care if somebody ranked them above ISU at this point.
KU always plays bad at the beginning and end of the year. They'll turn it on come conference play.
The #1 vs #2 seed will be big this year for the conference tournament. Having 3 clear top teams gives one team a big advantage to not have to play the other two in a semi-final.
They generally play much better in the 8 Jayhawks vs 5 opposing players portion of their schedule.

I hope so, getting Burton into the mix will be a big boost. If Carter/Ernst can give us a few serviceable minutes off the bench to spell Niang/McKay we will be in amazing shape.
KU's game reminded me of their tourney loss to Wichita. Just not quite good enough in the half court against teams with real toughness. ISU is going to have similar problems against teams that can slow it down a bit.
Agreed. It's not like ISU came out of the Colorado game looking like a Final Four team. It's early for everyone. OU had some questionable moments against a mediocre Memphis team and outside of Ellis, KU was pretty terrible against MSU. But it's silly to project forward after any one game a team plays. I expect ISU to lose on the road to a Cincinnati team that probably won't be more than a 6-9 seed in the tourney. That doesn't make ISU more vulnerable. All three teams will be in the hunt heading into the last week or so of the season. It will once again be a battle of who has the depth and the talent to win games on the road in conference. As for the tourney? Who knows at this point. I wouldn't put money on anyone yet.
There's not much you can take away from these early games. After watching Iowa State it's pretty apparent we lack depth until Burton gets here (we already knew that). After watching Kansas it's pretty apparent that Graham and Traylor/Mickelson/Lucas all still suck (we already knew that). Both teams will improve as the season goes on like usual
randomfan44, how do you feel about your guards? Mason is proven, but Selden and Graham don't look greatly improved. Graham is an average player and Selden is inconsistent, seems to lack a killer instinct. What the hell were they doing running that weave in the last 4 minutes? Absolutely no action and then tried to penetrate late in teh shot clock with Graham? They got bailed out on a foul on Mason another time. It reminded me of the Big 12 tourney final. KU has some issues that Diallo won't fix.
I was listenting to KXNO Morning Rush today (stfu about it. don't care.) and Travis Justice was doing the old, "Oh ISU thinks the refs are out to get them and the whole thing about you can't go back and correct something once it's happened" and I wished that someone would have called in or sent him a tweet with the link to this:

And I am still perplexed as to how adding a 6'4" G/F in Burton solves ISU's depth problems. There just aren't going to be a lot of scenarios where he is going to allow McKay, Morris and Niang to not have to play 35+ minutes a game against the half dozen Big 12 teams that will be headed to the tourney. That's a lot of mileage those guys are going to have to put on the tires and thus, a lot of risk for injuries.

It's the price you pay being in a series like this. All three of KU's possible opponents in this series were in the Final Four last year. Yikes. Break down the film, see where you got exposed and then go from there. I guess the good part is that it nips any overconfidence in the butt before it ever has a chance to fester...
