Leave early enough driving up the north shore so you can find parking at the state parks, it gets full fast. Duluth is an underrated summer trip. Our family always loves it there. Kids ask to go back all the time.

The parking lot for the High Falls/Grand Portage State Park is directly before the customs crossing, The Pigeon River is the border, so one would have to cross the river to get into Canada. Pretty difficult to cross the border by accident!!
Me too. Highly recommend it . . . especially with minimal training.
Take a day trip to Grand Marais. Eat at South of the Border cafe and make sure to take cash (at least they still didn't take card when I was last there 10 years ago)
Especially this week when it'll be in the 70's there vs near 100 in the cities

Has to be the longest wooden staircase I’ve ever been on. Lots of fun to race the kids to the top. Lots of mosquitos too, but that goes without saying.
You can find the original border markers at the park. Interesting find.
Duluth is nice but the North Shore is awesome. Grand Marais is so cool. Went with my in-laws and 2 young children last year so the best part was being able to sit on the beach over looking the lake listening to music without having to talk to anyone and have the kids play in the sand without me. I can't wait to go back.
I thought the Glensheen Mansion tour was interesting. Just on the north edge of the city. Glensheen
My wife and I went the second weekend in June...highs in the 40s and 50s made it hard to ride bikes. Still, one of our favorite places to visit. Highway 61 north is a great drive!
Congdon Park hike. Best urban trail ever, right in the heart of Duluth. Straight up, waterfalls at every curve, Great Hike, only a mile up and mile down.

Agree with others on going farther up the North Shore. So much beauty and so many activities. It is my favorite vacation place. When I go there it feels like being "home". We like to setup base around Lutsen and Caribou Lake. Right near there you the have the Alpine Slide, Superior Golf Coast and many mountain bike and hiking trails. Go north from there you can go to Cascade River, Grand Marais, Judge CR Magney and Grand Portage. South and there's Temperance River, Tettegouche, Split Rock and Palisade Head.
And can't forget the Superior Hiking Trail running the length of the North Shore from Duluth to the Canadian border. https://superiorhiking.org/
