Fact is this class will likely be ranked in the low 50's and 7/10 when all is said and done or better than any Rhoads class.

Maybe, maybe not...but even if it's 10/10 I'm still a bit confused about what Shop's basic thesis is? Is it that ISU will never recruit well no matter who the coach is? We can't know how well MC develops players here yet so we may have a Bill Snyder on our hands who can turn **** into gold. Not saying we do but critiquing the 2016 as compared to previous regimes seems premature.

Interesting that you bring up Earle Bruce. Earle's main recruiting areas besides Iowa, were the Chicago area and Ohio. We had a ton of recruits from Ohio back then. We also hit Florida and got some really good recruits from there.

Four hour radius from Ames. Because of the Toledo 4 years draw a circle four hours around Toledo. This will be the extended area. Add Florida, Texass, etc. There is where the largest % of roster will be from. Just my high IQ opinion.

I meant Brian Kelly, not Chip. Argghhh

Long ago in a far, far away galaxy, ISU AD Pollard had his choice of coaching candidates as follows:

Jim Harbaugh - front runner - but swears too much and tells people he's interviewing so he's out. Wasn't interested anyways they tell us.
Jim Kelley
Art Briles
Gene Chizik

ISU fans have and still cherish Chizik coins to this day, I have no idea why. The fantasy continues that way? I don't know...They'll tell you they threw them in Lake Laverne, which is more like a puddle than a pond and certainly not a lake, but I digress....they have secretly sown two of these coins into their underwear for game day. For protection from ISU reality. Don't do it! Don't you do it TolFBfan! There's no coming back after that.

I did mix in time travel however - Pollard couldn't have said the Chizik comments to Harbuagh. That hadn't happened yet.

It's not about Campbell or me or any of you, it is about ISU and the competitiveness of the B12.

Campbell may be able to win 7-8 games/year in Ames. He may even be able to do it slow ball style like KSU's Snyder or NIU/Minnesota Jerry Kill. Boring as hell. Just boring as hell.

I just got done schooling you that ISU could have had Art Briles or the ND head coach Chip Kelly to which you had zero clue and you're going all full monty on me? An outsider? Rumor was that Kelly was miffed for not getting the job. Made some snide public remarks about ISU after is was all over. So he actually wanted the offer, that implies, doesn't mean he takes it.

I'm saying it's very unlikely CMC survives unless he significantly improves his average player rating. And no, going from .81 to .83 is not significant. Try looking up Allen Lazard's rating and get a class of mostly that and he has a chance. Just a chance.

For all those emotionally invested in this "working" whatever that means for you, I get it. The stats so far don't support it.

If CMC can't win 7-8 games/year while Lazard and Campos are here and can't up his recruiting, he made a mistake or error in judgment taking this job. Won't be the first or the last unfortunately. Go look up ISU FB records.

I'm an Ames native with deep ISU ties, not that that matters one bit. Prove your Ohio three stars can play slow ball and beat Baylor and OU and Texas and TCU - when they're national championship good. You can't.

Oh, and don't forget about KSU, KU Who is out-recruiting ISU because they hired a TEXAS HS coach with Texas connections. They're going to be kicking ISU's *** in a few years, then where will you and Campbell be? Not here. Their Texas three stars will be running downfield while CMC's slow ball guys are gassed and falling farther behind. Hope I'm wrong, but history and recruiting to date say otherwise. There are simply more FB players in Texas, the largest state in the nation than in Ohio.

Know Ohio well. Worked in Columbus the home of Ohio FB. Lived in Austin too, home of Texas FB. They're both weird places. Family in Cleveland, so don't give us that Ohio BS. Iowa boys are tough too, just not enough of them.

You know how when it's family you get to tell the ugly truth, but won't let anyone else do so? Just remember you ain't family. You're friend of an unproven outsider who thinks his plan is better than everyone else who has failed here. And that list included Pop Warner (pt time/advisor), Gene Chizik, Mack Brown, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and the extenze man that won a Super Bowl at Dallas. Won't even name him. Do your homework coach and act like a decent human being and show some respect for those who clearly showed up with a gun, tank and howitzer to your knife fight.

Oh, and you suck at coaching. You don't even bother to look up the easy things on the internet before you want to "fight" the "CMC enemy". God almighty, Baylor is going to tear you 27 new a-holes before its all over. And you resort to slander instead. It won't be pscho babble when CMC loses to SDSU. Just wait for B12 play to see the haters hating on me turn on you and CMC like the rabid ill tempered Iowa hound dogs they are.

How's that?

I'm going to assume the OP was annihilated by his own narcissism. No one knows if MC has what it takes to win at ISU but to write him off three weeks into his tenure is a little juvenile.

I'm not excited because this class is some juggernaut or something. I'm excited that it's even an average class (for ISU) considering the circumstances. CPR wasn't going to bring in anything better and he was here for over a half a decade.

This is the right answer. There isn't anything incredibly special about this class but there is a class and they will meet numbers. It won't be better on the field than the 2014 class. It may not be better than the 2015 class either but it certainly isn't down with the 11, 12, and 13 classes. It will be good and that's commendable given the situation.

In Summary:

  1. Bottom of the league talent will not prevail. CMC recruiting is not substantially different than prior head coaches to date.
  2. Win 7-8 games with this mediocre approach per year or go away. Fans are tired of same old propaganda.
  3. ISU just became the MAC/BIG10 version of B12 football. Eww.
  4. Knocking your number one recruiting base of Texas and being biased about Texas is so, so stupid and damaging to recruiting - all to get at someone you disagree with? Dumb is dumb. Having your internet CMC cheerleader self-professed "coach" leading the smack talk? Epic stupid.
  5. This thread sums up nicely this hire and the future direction of ISU FB. And shines a helpful spotlight on the true nature of the fanbase. Rabid would fit.
  6. Vilifying me doesn't change a thing and it won't make you feel any better about it when Campbell wins two to four games next year and looks just about as inept as prior staffs.
  7. Talent wins games far, far more than coaches. Doesn't support increasing salaries and coach worship types, but it's true. Saban in NFL? Couldn't cut it. Put him at a school that always gets the nations top recruits and he wins. Same for Kiffin, same for CMC.
  8. Responding to vile stupidity is stupid and won't change anything. I'm here, but there hasn't been a substantive argument that holds water offered to date.
  9. What I am "so miserable" about is the ISU FB groundhog day. So I tried something different and I changed the dialogue. Successfully. And I'm willing to stand before the internet firing squad and say you missed. The point that is.
  10. Ayeni recruits well because he is what players want for a coach - a young, ex-NFL player who can lead them or position them best for an NFL shot. Get a whole staff like that and recruiting may change.
  11. My now large following of detractors have taken over speaking for me saying I said ISU FB should be shut down. I didn't say that or think that. They did. I said expecting different results with the same recruiting outcomes of last in league is the definition of insanity, or delusion as I said. Time will tell who's right, not that it really matters.
  12. I did say earlier I hope I was wrong. Don't feel that way at all any more. Thanks for that. And I too am glad I'm not in Iowa, CO, HI, OH around any of these types of fans.
  13. Hey, you guys remember that guy you called out as a horrible Mensa coach who couldn't get it done? Well, he's doing real well down in Houston. He'll be playing in a big bowl game. Bet he and S&C coach are REAL happy to leave Iowa and Ohio in the rear view mirror. But they won't say that. Because they're smarter than that.
  14. CMC: If going to "work out" and "squat" in a video, use proper form and put at least 450 pounds on there. I could do that in HS. Where was Ayeni? He can lift. The rest of you guys? DIII. IF this staff succeeds, it will be because of Ayeni more than anything imo. And Coach Rhoads poached him, but didn't have enough time to see it to fruition.
  15. Jim Kelly, Tim Kelly, Jeff Kelly, Ralph Kelly. Such an obvious choice for a school named the Fighting Irish. Just stay away from the practice videotaper job listing. It's a killer.
  16. Kelly, Briles, Harbaugh - all said no thanks according to posters. That's even worse isn't it?

Oh yeah, and the players wanted to play for Rhoads and believed in him.

Pollard said they deserve better...this isn't it. This thread has convinced me of that. Thanks for that extra push and shove guys!

No more from me. You win!

Please return to your previously scheduled new coach worship. I will find the exit as requested.

The only thing this thread has proved is that you should resume your medications.

Way up there
The funny thing is, I'd be okay bringing the same caliber players that CPR and Co brought in for the next few years, we played with everyone but OU last year. Last season's struggles were more about player development, gameplan and in game adjustments. Talent wise, last years team was good enough to get to a bowl.

I am reading the posts by ShopTalk and notice that everyone (almost) is taking his bait. Never so much said about nothing that is relevant. Fun to watch the progression but not worth much of my time.

We didn't really play with Tech but we gave OU a fight for the first half but I agree with your general opinion. That team had enough talent to win a lot more games. I'd say they had enough to win 8 games. The thing is, a lot of the best talent we have is really young or was very inexperienced.
