I think if we end the season with 5 total wins, he is back. It shows improvement over the last two years, plus I think it would show he has righted the ship some with some of his coaching hires. The key here would be who comes in at DC and OC. Assuming Sturdy does a good job, he probably gets promoted, otherwise look outside. I hope/think that Wally retires. For DC, I hope we look outside for someone to come in.

At 4 wins, its tough, but I would lean that he comes back. This will depend on who we can attract as a new coach and what donors are willing to put up. But like others have said, it will be a tough market out there for good coaches.

At 3 total wins, I would heavily lean that we fire Rhodes, with a chance at keeping him due to lack of good coaching candidates in the market.

Anything less he is gone.

Rhoads should be fired at the end of this season for 1 winning season in 7 years, 4 different OC's, and one of the worst defenses in the country.

Pollard could structure the pay package for the new coach as follows:
Wins 1-3 pay $250,000 per win (up to $750,000)
Wins 4-6 pay $400,000 per win (up to $1.2M)
Wins 7-10 pay $650,000 per win (up to $2.6M)
Wins 11-13 pay $1M per win (up to $3M)

If the new coach wins:
1 game - he's paid $250,000
2 games - $500,000
3 games - $750,000
4 games - $1.15M
5 games - $1.55M
6 games - $1.95M (this might need to be closer to $2.5M but you get the point)
7 games - $2.6M
8 games - $3.25M
9 games - $3.9M
10 games - $4.55M
11 games - $5.55M
12 games - $6.55M
13 games - $7.55M

Heck we're paying Rhoads about $900,000 per win right now. Ridiculous.

and no coach that is any good would sign that contract.

Ding ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Name a coach JP has fired. Hint - one coached us to our winningest season in that sport's history at ISU. The other was probably a bad fit and not JP's fault.

Did he fire the drunk soccer coach? That was a few years ago but I don't remember what happened.

With the firing of Mangino, I just have a feeling that all he needs is moral victories to be back next year. In all of Rhoads' tenure, JP has always had something to latch on to to sell hope. If we get a few games where the offense turns the corner, win or lose, Rhoads is back. That's the selling point, "We've found our OC."

I still feel like they should have fired Rhoads after the TTech game, because I had a feeling something would go down this year that would allow Rhoads to be back next year.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I have this sinking feeling that outside of getting blown out in the last 5 games, he's back. I like JP and what he's done, but I get this feeling that he over-estimates his ability to market the football program. At some point the fans are going to demand wins to keep showing up. I just hope that holding onto Rhoads for another year doesn't set us back any further.

Although it does look attractive to future coaches, I mean you really have to be terrible here to not keep your job.

CPR did say that keeping Baylor under 50 was the team's goal. Didn't mention anything about winning the game which I thought was odd.

I remember hearing that coaches told the defense they needed: to force X # of 3 and outs, force X # of punts, and get X # of turnovers and they would have a chance to win this game. (I don't remember the exact numbers given). So at least the defense had some benchmarks to having a chance to win this game. Some may not consider this a good coaching method but it proves at least defense had goals for winning the game.

Many people are saying this but there is almost no chance Rhoads comes back if we win 1 or 2 more games. I think Pollard does want to keep Rhoads but he is not stupid. In this day and age, you cannot bring back a coach after a 3, 2, and another 2-4 win season.

Every single ISU fan I know has seen enough. Not one wants Rhoads back. Some of the most loyal of my family/friends are done with season tickets after this season, including my relatives that work at the university (one in the athletic dept).

I said 6-6 was my minimum. But I've changed that to 5-7 primarily because our kicker blew a routine 32 yard FG at Toledo. You can blame the coaches for the penalties (I don't) or not positioning the ball (based on what we know now, that probably doesn't even matter) if you want but kickers are expected to make those at this level and I'm not going to hold the coaching staff liable for a college kicker missing an easy one.

Plus, we could possible play SIX 10+ win teams this year. That's just insane.

If we go 5-7 (unlikely), that also means we go 4-5 in Big 12 play. That's good enough for me for another year.

Your first inclination was correct. You shouldn't give the coaches a pass on the Toledo game, whose fault is **** poor preparation? Sure, there are really good teams in our league but in year SEVEN this program should beat UNI, Iowa, Toledo, KU, KSU (this season) and be able to get a sixth vs. TTU/UT/WVU. We'll be perpetually almost turning the corner with PR.

If we win one more game and CPR promises a new DC, my fear is JP will not cut the check.

Does Rhoads get any credit for doing some pretty good recruiting? For instance, the d-line is stacked this year.

I think a lot of posters on this board say fire CPR for the sake of firing him. I feel a lot of you aren't looking at the big picture. If JP feels he cannot get the person he wants or thinks we need, then he shouldn't fire him. Firing him and hiring the wrong guy or the best of whats left is not the correct move. That's why JP is the CEO of a multi million dollar business and you guys post on message boards and feel outrage. Facts.

He gets tons of credit for recruiting the d-line. He also gets tone of credit for having passion.

Demeaning the value of someone's opinion because they post on a message board... by posting on a message board
