Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. We should beat the pants of them, had we ran our offense correctly.
Wins always trump losses, but good losses can apply in CBB. But I use "good loss" sparingly (top-10 RPI away from home is usually required, at least). Unless Tuesday's result becomes too frequent, I don't think the loss will do much damage by the end of the regular season. Plus, if Maryland has a lot of youth, maybe the team will actually gain momentum and finish better than NIT-level (which was the preseason projection).
That's putting it in tourney-resume terms. Eye-test is probably a different matter.
Everything looks good when shots go in, Alabama, and everything looks bad when shots don't go in, Maryland. As previously posted, my concern is defensive positioning and rotations, this needs cleaned up.
Whoa whoa whoa, nice shooting tex! We beat Maryland 8 out of 10 times, it's a meaningless glorified scrimmage before thanksgiving. That game has basically no meaning right now.
In the Alabama game, Fred did have BDJ on the bench quite a bit, so he has already used that strategy. Secondly, BDJ was on the bench more from turnovers trying to pass and throwing it away than he was hotdogging-all-for-me. I have actually been fairly impressed that he has tried to play more team ball than I expected this early in the season.
This team probably can use a couple losses to get everyone to buy into hoiball. Once they do, the potential turns into a top program!

Was disappointed in the loss and the play of some of the players, but I'm not even close to panicking. Fred has proven to take transfers and mold them to his style and still allow them to flourish. Therefore, I am not concerned about BDJ. After the way Royce went after he left ISU, I imagine if Fred can get him to buy in, shouldn't be too hard for BDJ.
As I've said before, it's one game in November. I feel pretty good we'll look back on this game as an aberration, just like WVU last year, Drake 2-3 years ago, etc.

Maryland looked pretty damn good, we looked awful (in relationship to how we want to play) and yet they didn't get away from us.
I think they caught us by surprise by starting that huge line-up and when we didn't make them pay (not making shots) the malaise set in.

I wouldn't call it a good loss, but it's nothing to freak out about (e.g. losing to FCS team in football).
Nader still figuring out his role. 3 key guys had bad nights (Georges, Houge, Monte). Bad matchup for us in terms of height. Terrible shooting night. It's early and we have historically had slow starts due to the team nature of hoiball - last year being a big exception.
It's basketball. Some nights, it just doesn't go your way. So let's remain calm and look for Fred to coach them up and improve. Let's see how good they are in March.

May never see this group shoot that poorly again all season. Guys missed shots and the frustration set in way too early. Didn't like what I saw from Monte - forcing the issue and forcing shots. People call BDJ selfish and while partially true Tuesday night - no one else was producing on offense. I think he did what he felt he had to.
The teamwork thing is really an easily correctable item. Can't fix lack of talent...which is not the issue here. We got spoiled last season with a team that gelled right from the start. Not common for a new/transfer/young group.
This season it hasn't clicked as easily but I expect that will come. It always has under Fred.

agreed. it also seems like we've had a lot more errant passes this year. catching the ball at your feet or having to jump for it can make a huge difference. Not only does it allow the defender time to get there, it throws off the shooters rhythm.
Pretty fair assessment, we had some good looks but our players shooting a three with a guy in his face with 15 secs left in the shot clock was frustrating.
It's actually surprising that this hasn't happened sooner with this type of recruiting philosophy. Fred's been fortunate up to this point that his previous teams have all bought in.
I am a bit surprised there wasn't more issues with Kane but there wasn't very much adversity for him to deal with. At least until he didn't get drafted.
