This thread sounds like the typical court ordered group substance abuse sessions. And I should know as I moderated them. Conversations about personal faults and deeds quickly turn into faults of government and legal procedure. The ones with best chance of recovery are those who resist the deflection apparatus..

No, thats just reality.

B.S......maybe your reality. The attitude that everyone else does it so why not do it, is the biggest cop out. It is a good thing that we have responsible adults making decisions concerning our multi-million dollar athletic department.

If you honestly believe we don't have other athletes smoking weed you are a moron. I can think of multiple athletes from multiple schools I have witnessed lighting up.

I'm in awe of how naive some of you are if you truly think this is Calvin's first offense.

Calvin, like many other kids who blow opportunities of a lifetime, is really, really stupid for doing what he has done.

This is a bad day for Iowa State basketball. Godfrey was a player we did not want to lose. But knowing what I now know today, all I can say is wow kid what an idiot.

And for the record, a kid can be a nice person and still be a friggin idiot that screws up golden opportunities even after given chances.

Agree. Don't know the whole story -- including why he was suspended before. But booting him off the team seems a little harsh. Maybe Hoiberg warned him that the next time would be it. And, if that happened, he didn't really leave Fred much of a choice. But kicked off for pot possession, by itself, is somewhat weak.

Agreed, DUI much worse pot. There must be more to the story, not sure I need to know the whole story as it might scare future recruits...

I think ballers are like snowboarders (& swimmers) they load it up & do their thing...

I think we just need to tax it (the chron) to help our economy grow/take $$ from gangs

Its not a question if it should be legal or not, or how harmfull it may or may not be. Its the fact that it is illegal and he broke the law, team rules, and ran out of chances. Fred put the team on notice that rules need to be followed or you are gone.

Legalizing marijuana to generate billions in revenue and save billions in law enforcement costs fighting drug gangs and jailing potheads has little hope. We can't even get some legislators to vote to legalize medical marijuana to relieve the suffering of many that need it. The pharmaceutical industry and their politicians have done a great job bamboozling America.

With the two open schollies I'm hoping one goes to Percy Gibson and my best bet is if we dont fill the other one, Hoiberg might reward Bubu with the other.

Ugh this sucks so much, it was exciting watching Godfrey play this season, I think he has a ton of potential. He needed to be kicked of though, this was his second, maybe third offense and Freddy needs to show he can be tough. I'm so sick of college athletes making poor decision, yea I smoke weed every once in a while, but if I was on a scholarship and had the potential some of these kids have I definitely wouldn't take the risk.

Ugh, please don't turn this into a Legalize It thread; start one up if you want to discuss. Regardless of your personal opinion, it's illegal now and it drives me nuts when someone gets caught with it. This was a really dumb move by Godfrey and I'm glad CFH took a hard line. Godfrey's a young kid and I hope he gets himself right and resumes his career, but it won't be at ISU.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Railey is still on the team. Seems like Godfrey got a second crack at things, messed up it and was shown the door...how is Railey's situation different?

I agree. I'm glad Fred cracked down. Godfrey is going to be a good player at another school.

I'm not sure of this myself. I can remember 2 things for Railey - the OWI and the fight.

Godfrey got himself into some trouble during the season and now this.

I think both served 3 game suspensions during the season for their infractions. Maybe Godfrey was caught with it, suspended, and told not to let it happen again? Railey probably got told the same thing and instead of drinking and driving, he went drinking and fighting.

Best I can do.
