How many wins will it take next year to keep you hopeful about the program?

Not about wins for me, but how we lose. My issues with freaking out this year were over getting our ***** kicked every game we lost. I don't have a problem with losing, as long as we look like we belong on the field. Most of the time this past year, we did not look like we belonged on the field at all.

You must have missed the five games we lost by one possession.

Okay Danny Mac.

-One was to an FCS team that actually should have beat us by 20. Doesn't count as a close loss.
-Iowa DOMINATED us in every facet until the fans started to leave, you know, after the game was over. Doesn't count.
-Tech was clearly the better team, we just got every break imaginable to hang with them. Respectable effort but never felt like ISU was going to win. I don't count it but I guess you could.
-Texas and TCU games would fall into the "close loss" category.

Throw in Tech and 3 of our 9 losses were respectable. Only 50% of our games were appalling. Yeah, it's how we lose that's most concerning.

In years 6 through 11 Mac went 39-35 with 5 bowl game appearances. I'm hopeful that CPR can at least match that.

I wish our schedule was easier next year. We could easily start 2-6. I am hoping for 6 wins, but we don't have a lot of margin for error.

6 wins, year 6 for CPR getting to a bowl game should be the bare minimum for him at this point.

5-7 should be bare minimum for your program in year 6. Wouldnt shock me if you all go bowling

Come on Boomer...Even the sports animal openly admits this. Iowa St has a better TE, WR and RB then any of OU's and that is saying something. Trenches, that is a different story. OU does not even really have a QB. Look at the size of your skill players, they are not Big 12 size, they are small. How did you score points against ND and Okie St? Defense and special teams. Scoring against KU and ISU does not count.

You can try and undermine the players' performance and the coaches' strategy all you'd like, but the fact of the matter is, we were in a position to win those games. Being in the game until the end is not an "appalling" loss. I don't know how you can see it that way. It seems like people on this forum are out to try and make the Cyclones seem worse than they actually are. Some of the worst fans I've seen for any team have been on this board. People talk about drinking the Kool-Aid about how we're going to be good next year. I think the one's drinking the Kool-Aid are the one's who think we're going to be so bad.

8-4 next year. Decent bowl game.

To be hopeful about the program, I would like to see 6 or 7 regular season wins, with more than 3 conference wins. And a bowl game win. Playing every team in the Big 12 and Iowa every year, we can't really expect an easy schedule anytime in the future.

Has to be at least seven wins. There just aren't that many "impossible" games on the schedule like there used to be (Baylor, Oklahoma?). That is a sign of progress for the program. The next step is scoring points. We have been waiting for that for two to three years. Our Head Coach must prove this coming year, that under his leadership, Iowa State can put a competent offense on the field. If the offense looks like a cluster again, his seat gets very warm.

Bundrage is better than any WR OU has. Wimberly is a better RB then any OU has. I know you agreed with me on Bibbs, dude is a stud and will be preseason all big 12.

With OU in Ames next season, I am not writing that off as a loss as I normally would against OU. Outside of Baylor, there is not a team I think is a guaranteed loss for ISU next season.

OU has ISU beat in the trenches, especially on the DL and probably on the entire defense for that matter.

The Big 12 is not going to be a good league again next season, ISU needs to make a jump in 2014 or its not going to happen. The OC hire is HUGE. You cannot take a flyer on someone with the potential weapons at WR in Lazard and Montgomery to go along with Wimberly and potential studs Nealy and Mister. The OL has the POTENTIAL to be very good in 2014 and a potential top 3 in the conference in 2015. This cannot be wasted and if ISU wins a combined 8 or 9 games between 2014 and 2015, probably time for a new HC.

Remember, cool locker room videos are not a reason to keep a coach.

Good skill players to build around for sure. Hope we get an OC that schemes to their strengths as opposed to trying to make them function in a "system" offense. Don't forget about Jarvis West. The guy shows up to play and has had some big nights for us.

UNI ripped our heart out. We knew it was going to be a long season.

Just make a bowl game. I'm sick of hearing Iowa and K-State fans talking about bowl trip plans.

Okay...I'll give you texas, tt and TCU. But please don't act like we were even close in the UNI and Iowa games. Those were pathetic showings.

As I recall, we were the ones with the ball last, down by 8 in the Iowa game. If you don't play well, and you're still in a position to win, you're probably not as bad as your record shows.

If ISU really has the talent that I keep reading about, then 7-8 wins should be attainable. After this past season, if ISU can just come out looking halfway organized for half the games, that's an improvement.
