Didn't realize that UNT was not the same level as UNI, SDSU. At this point it is nice to have that extra game.
You could make North Texas a national power in NCAA 2003

From Incarnate Word’s side, they cancelled a game in favor of a payday (plus a cushy chartered flight). They agreed to the Championship Game stipulation after they looked at our history and said, “We won’t have to worry about that, ISU is never good at football.”

After we win against OU on Saturday, they’re going to be thinking, “Oh crap...”

I'm guessing they don't get to fly much to their games.

We might get a lot of **** because of the silly university name, but this isn't like playing Drake. They're an FCS school just the same as SDSU and UNI. Anyone that was holding out hope for scheduling Nebraska or another FBS school is an idiot. Facebook is full of them right now complaining that this is a bad game, completely forgetting they bought a ticket to see South freaking Dakota State.
I'd play South Dokata State anyday over alot of these fcs schools. at least they have a pulse and I've herd of them. that being said, bring on the word! a wins a win

Nonsense. Making sure we have six is wise, but there is much more...primarily taking advantage of the new redshirt rule and seeing what we have in younger talent at the end of the season...which would be a huge benefit even if we were sitting at 4 wins. Improving bowl seeding is a legitimate reason as well.

I agree. I mean, we're probably not using many TRFR vs OU. Unlikely against TCU, OSU, WV and probably UT. In a perfect world, you'd give them snaps against Akron, KU, ICW and then the bowl game if they are good enough.

Even if they are sitting at 4 wins, 5-7 teams have made plenty of bowls. And ISU has the team GPA to do fine there assuming there are spots available...not that I think they'll end up 5-7.

Man, this is the type of 1AA that I've wanted to bring in the whole time. The round robin schedule is tough enough. Add in the hok game and it's a brutal schedule year in and year out. Why feel the need to schedule a top 10 1AA program? Or a team with a bunch of Iowa kids like UNI or SDSU with a chip on their shoulder? I get it that ISU should beat them no matter what, but there's nothing wrong with scheduling a team that you can beat the crap out of and give your backups some snaps. SEC teams do this all the time and no one complains enough to make them stop.

Honestly, SEC schools have it right. Schedule a bad 1AA team mid-November. Give your starters a break before the last few games. Not saying it is right, but until the system starts punishing them for it, they are obviously benefitting from it.

You're proving my point.

I don't want to win 5 games and only get to a bowl game because we beat the little sisters of the poor on Dec 1st. Not very deserving IMO.
I probably shouldn’t say this.. but you’re an idiot

You do realize though that outside of like maybe 5% of college football fans, a win/loss to a crappy FCS school looks the exact same as a win/loss to a good FCS school (minus NDSU)

What’s even dumber to me is some people (@clonedude) making the argument that we shouldn’t schedule another game because it sends the message we’re worried about not getting 6 wins. Why the hell would you take a game and a chance to compete away from kids? You’re taking close to 10% of their season away from them by not scheduling another game. Some of the arguments against scheduling this game are so stupid it hurts

Not sure if this has been asked in the thread yet but i started thinking. Theyre saying they will reissue tickets to those who bought. Will they be reissuing these to SDSU fans in the visitors section as well?

Sure, ISU should refund those tickets once SDSU refunds a corresponding amount of it’s guaranteed payment. Otherwise, no.

The rule that Freshmen can play in up to 4 games without losing a season of eligibility is a big reason for the game as well.

This is a great pickup for the 12th game.
I’d guess this may wind up like an NFL preseason game. The starters don’t play very long, the reserves—especially freshmen and walkons—get to have fun. In the former case, invaluable experience—the latter, deservedly so.

One thing I've found interesting throughout this thread is people seem to have an issue because they haven't heard of the team before. Why does that matter? I've heard of Incarnate Word before and knew they had a team, so just because someone hasn't heard of XYZ team they are somehow less of a team? Just a weird take to me. Shoot there are plenty of people who don't know all of the P5 schools that follow football.

Well they are less of a team. Let's be honest. They are terrible. I don't mind the game. If we would have scheduled them for a normal regular season game I would have questioned wth we were doing. However, with the circumstance we have. It's a game and I am good with it. I had heard of them because they did well in the NCAA basketball tourney a few years ago. I honestly didn't know they had a football team though.
