I hope my heart doesn't give out before Big 12 play is over. This season with tough games every week is going to wear me out. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. This is fun.

Are you going to be the victim advocate for maryland every thread on rankings? I see you have been. We played Maryland thinking theyes were a mediocre team we would steam roll and they came into that came looking to make a statement. If that game were played today it is highly dout full the result would be the same. That game is not definitive. We have more top 50 wins. Give it a rest.

Also don't think McKay was playing yet, or at least would have been his first game or two. We're a better team with McKay and getting better as he gets better.

Iowa in the top 25th is a joke

But us dominating them on the road without our two most athletic players is probably a factor in why we are 9th.

The Maryland fans on ESPN.com are basically infecting every single ISU story comments with pure hatred. It's cute. Not saying we'd have beat them with McKay, but he'd have been an important piece in that game even if we still were shooting horribly.

There are going to be some weak top seeds this season. Gonzaga, Villanova, Arizona and Wisconsin will push for one seeds. Personally, I hope Gonzaga and Villanova blow through their conferences undefeated and we get put in their region (assuming we don't get a 1).

Don't know too much about Utah but they do have a good point guard.

I don't know much either, but they played KU tough at the Sprint Center without their 2nd best player. I think ISU looks like we would match up well with them because they have a couple of freshman bigs that ISU could maybe abuse.

The resumes (as of now) are a lot closer than you think they are. They are ahead of us in both RPI and BPI, which I know doesn't tell the whole story. But they also beat us, in case you forgot.

I think you can make the case, but you can also argue we added an impact player since that loss.

Who knew Maryland has SUCH an annoying fan base, every article ISU is mentioned the comments section is littered with upset Maryland fans. The ESPN article about the best back courts is full of annoying comments from Maryland fans...

Looking ahead to this week, at least four of the eight teams in front of us have somewhat tricky games to deal with. Wisconsin has two potential losses this week:

Villanova @ Georgetown (tonight)

Iowa @ Wisconsin (Tuesday)
Wisconsin @ Michigan (Saturday, College GameDay site)

Arizona @ Stanford (Thursday)

Notre Dame @ NC State (Sunday)

Iowa State could be in the Top 5 one week from now if these games go the right way.

The UT game will be huge.

Can't see how Villanova doesn't drop a bunch after losing by 20 to Georgetown.

Think about the butterfly effect, boys. If we beat South Carolina, I doubt if we beat WVU on the road. You can't just assume that each game is played in a vacuum with no bearing on the rest of the season.

With the schools right below us, except Kansas and Maryland, how do you all feel we would do head-to-head vs:

#10 Louisville. Loss
#12 Utah. Win ?
#14 Whichy St. Win
# 15 N Carolina. Win
#20 UNI. Loss? they always give us fits.

This may change (hoping for the better), but today, I'd say:

(1) Iowa State wins all of those games at home, with possible exception of Louisville (which could bog down the game enough w/ physicality to make it iffy)
(2) ISU would lose most of them on the road; UNI, close win (neutral court would be better situation) and perhaps Wichita State. I could see a split at Utah and at UNC.

ISU true-road-game performance has been OK, but vs. RPI away from Hilton, only West Virginia is in the range of everyone on that list except for Louisville (currently 30 range -- so it's strange I would pick that as potential home loss. Style of play situation).

This one is either slightly ahead or behind for pure RPI numbers, but it's close and offers side-by-side convenience.

CBS RPI comparison: Iowa State vs. Maryland

As a snaphot, regarding ISU-Maryland discussion in this thread, it's close to a coin-flip. ISU has the "best win" RPI-wise, Maryland's best-loss was at home to Virginia (which got votes for No. 1).

Maryland has head-to-head neutral win and both teams have common-opponent wins (Oklahoma State, Turtles won at OSU, Cyclones at home; both beat Oakland at home).

ISU's SOS is a little better, fewer games vs. sub-200. Maryland's other loss was true road game, vs. higher RPI team than our worst loss. Iowa State has more top-50 RPI wins.

I'll let everyone sort it out as they deem necessary.

Disclaimer: Still too early for RPI to provide a solid picture, but it's far enough into the season to work as a guide.
