Hypothetical "When We Play Them" Prediction because I'm bored at work (If you're mad about anything in here, deal with it):

@ Houston (1-3): Not going to sugarcoat it. Houston is just not very good. Holgerson left Fritz with a very bare cupboard and Fritz is trying to pick up the pieces. Looking at their schedule, they may be lucky to win two games this year. I really hope we're not one of them, but this "should" be a comfortable victory. Iowa State 34 - Houston 17

Baylor (3-2):
First off, give me the Baylor Bears in an upset at home this week against a BYU team coming off a very big high last week. Baylor then comes back down to earth when they come to Ames for a WHITE OUT game under the lights. Iowa State 30 - Baylor 17

@ West Virginia (2-3):
West Virginia will lose in Stillwater next week and OSU will be coming off a loss in Manhattan this week. This is going to be a tough one, but the Mountaineers will be in their gauntlet of their season in playing KU, OSU, ISU and KSU 4 games straight. Iowa State goes into Morgantown and steals a close one in a barn burner. Iowa State 38 - West Virginia 35

#25 UCF (5-1):
UCF brings their high powered offense into Jack Trice and gets their first taste of The Wizard Jon Heacock. The under hits big time in this one and Iowa State stays undefeated. Iowa State 17 - UCF 14

Texas Tech (5-3): This is likely going to be Texas Tech's hardest game on their entire schedule. Going into Jack Trice against an undefeated Iowa State team on homecoming does not bode well for the Red Raiders. Iowa State 31 - Texas Tech 10

Kansas (4-4):
At the beginning of the year, KU was talked about as a team that's going to compete for a conference title. That has been the opposite as they've looked poor so far. There's going to be some buzz this game as it'll be in Arrowhead, but Iowa State fans bring Trice South to Kansas City and keeps the wheels turning. Iowa State 27 - Kansas 20

Cincinnati (4-5): Again, this is going to be the toughest game on Cincinnati's schedule. It's in Ames against a rolling Cyclones squad. Iowa State embarrasses the Bearcats. Iowa State 41 - Cincinnati 10

#5 Utah (10-0): An undefeated Utah takes on an undefeated Iowa State under the lights in a top-10 matchup and College Gameday in appearance. Utah prevails at home comfortably. Iowa State 13 - Utah 27

#13 Kansas State (9-2): Kansas State comes into Ames at night in a game to go to the Big 12 Championship. No snow in this one, but Iowa State wins in a high scoring back and forth shootout. Iowa State 40 - Kansas State 38
Inject this into my veins...

This is what it's like in the Big 10 west. Soak it in.

Except I contend the West is easier. But this type of schedule is what I’ve spent my life dreaming of.

I feel this team, while still young, is the deepest in talent...maybe ever. Not all of it is game-ready, but enough is to where there is a lot of confidence across the entire program.

I just recall Campbell's reaction to the TCU loss in 2022 & how there was such a difference physically between both teams. Led to a change in S&C coach & this is his 2nd full season for the team. In the not too distant past it seemed we had tweeners throughout our 2-deeps &, Heaven forbid, if we had to delve deeper there weren't players available with the physical traits necessary to compete highly at the D1 level. ISU is going to do ISU-things, and being physical is at the top. Taking care of that allows for the addition of utilizing talented positions for big plays, and schematically we are using more of those. The confidence & trust are there.

Think Campbell has exuded this confidence on the sidelines so far this season. Not as if he's walking around with a chip on his shoulder & more a calm, quiet confidence. It's no coincidence there are more Cyclones then ever playing in the NFL & the current roster in Ames will continue on that trend.

Other than Utah, I don't see anything wrong with this!

If I could pump the brakes on this thread any harder I'd be fred Flintstone.
But hey let her ride!

My philosophy is if it all falls apart, it won’t hurt any less if you downplay it. And meanwhile it sure is fun to dream.

I enjoyed the heck out of the 2021 football hype. And even though the season was slightly disappointing, I don’t regret enjoying it.

I’m a little worried about Houston, well not Houston, but just the spot. Trying to get to 4-0, at a weird venue.

No broken plays, no defensive or special teams TD's and take control of the ball. Do those things and we win and probably win by 2+ TDs.

I guess I kind of expected a team somewhere around the conference championship and therefor somewhere around playoff talks. There aren't elite teams in this conference and with everything we returned, I think that's a fair expectation. Whenever we return so much experience with some talent I think it's fair to expect a really good year. Is it a failure if we don't do either one of those things? Not necessarily but what are we here for if we are returning most of a good defense and pretty much every important offensive piece but can't expect to be at least in the discussion of the playoffs. I mean, if I can't reasonably expect that this year, what's the point, ya know?

I think we're pretty dang good but I'm not sure of it. I don't know how good Iowa is because I don't know how good we are and I think Minnesota is pretty bad because I don't think their defense is very good and they can't run the ball. Winning that game is great, but I don't think it's ever a good barometer of how good either team may be. The thing is, we might not really know how good we are until UCF. Houston is the OU game from looking like they're pretty bad but the OU game still happened. Baylor might be okay? West Virginia is probably mediocre like they have been? The OL feels a lot better. The raw numbers don't really say so and Sama hasn't really broken out but we've also had a vanilla game, the Iowa game, and then he had 7 carries so sample size and quality is just okay. It's also possible our best line hasn't played yet.

This is going to be hated on but are we sure Abu is a #1 feature back? I mean outside of BYU and KSU he never ran for more than 70 yards. In his next highest yardage games he ran for 67 (long of 39) and 59 (long of 55) so he’s was basically getting most of his yards from 1 long run.

I like the mixture of backs and how we have been using them this year and I have no doubt Abu will break a couple I’m just not sold on him being a #1 back.
