Not sure why so many posters are upset that Birch took the story and ran with it. It's his freakin job! If his boss at the DMR knew he had that info first and didn't break the story, Tommy would have been in deep ****. Of course the article has been edited numerous times! This isn't out of the ordinary when a situations is as fluid as this one has been.

If I were Birch, I might have confirmed a few things with Campbell before I ran it. Park made it seem as if he was instantly ostracized. Campbell was actually quite understanding and didn't throw him under the bus like he could have, especially considering the failed drug test that was never leaked.

My next question is why go to the press now? He said he has one more class this spring at ISU then will graduate and transfer. He has had a lot of time since the Texas game to call out the ISU team and fans but chose to now (only a few weeks removed from praising ISU fans and the team on Twitter). Something happened, specifically in the last few days, that made him have such thoughts about the team and fans. I hope it comes out what happened that he decided to drag ISU down on his way out the door.

Honestly maybe they heard good news on Kempt and the 6th year?

I bet he finishes that last class online. I bet he's out of Ames for good in a few days.

You’re not familiar with the instate media coverage of Iowa, are you?

A player gives a reporter quotes like that and 10/10 journalists are going to run with it, especially in the era of social media...

It will be interesting to find out what was being expected of Park during this interim period, such as early morning conditioning, running the scout offense, not smoking marijuana, etc. And whether he was committed to it. He came to Iowa State to play QB against Big 12 teams. It has to be a let-down to have to do all the other stuff.

Give Birch a break. There's not a lot of time to follow up with the other side when he has a meeting with a hooker scheduled.

Way up there
It sounds like Park's remarks have kind of ticked off the players

Im glad they are stepping up, the thing you have to love is, the three guys I quoted weren't recruited here by this coaching staff. They aren't just speaking out to defend a coach they love, they are guys who are defending their school and fans. The kids who stuck it out through the CPR/CMC coaching change don't get enough credit for their character and commitment to ISU.

It's one thing to want a fresh start somewhere new, but to try and start a smear campaign for the program you are leaving is unfair and disrespectful to a coach, AD, and program that gave you a second chance and loved you every step of the way. Wish the best for Park going forward, but after two transfers have to look at yourself in the mirror first it would seem.

I wonder if Tommy Birch would release the recording of the interview? It would be interesting to hear it in context. And to know what questions he was asking. Or was this a statement sent to him and not really an interview at all.

Exactly. With the information coming directly from Park, there was no need for confirmation and that's the headline anyway. I'm sure Birch's next call was to Campbell to get a comment, and that was added as soon as it was received, as well as additional details came out. Breaking news always comes out in chunks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Park maybe doesn't think things through real well.

From the beginning, I never had a good feeling about him. Comes across as cocky, immature, and entitled. With that said, I hope he figures things out and is able to move forward. I think he is gonna have a tough time finding a school that will take a risk on him with him coming out and saying what he's said.

Until this point, he hasn't really done or said anything to justify those opinions you had. His hair was different and he talked different. Otherwise, in front of the media, he didn't seem like those things.
