It takes 1,000+ people to make a football game happen at ISU planned months in advance. The game you reference will have a grand total of 1,000 including fans, teams, vendors, workers, etc...

I do believe that ECU's Stadium is somewhat similar to ours. Think it just has an upper deck only on one side though. Seats around 50K maybe but not sure what average attendance is.

The original post responded to stated that FBS games are not delayed to the next day in the modern era. I was just pointing out that it has actually happened. No idea how many hotel rooms, workers, etc. would be around.

I am in the camp that we made the right call last night. I am on the fence if we should try and schedule a game on Oct. 20 or Dec. 1. I am somewhat leaning towards best option is scheduling Presbyterian College on Dec. 1 with a option to cancel if we are in the championship game. But our friendly neighbors in Lincoln may be thinking the same thing.

I just checked the AccuWeather forecast for the OU game. Overcast with a thunderstorm possible. Sunny the Sunday after. Might as well just move the game now so everyone has time to prepare.
**** it. Cancel the season right now. That way we can start on our dome right now.

i put all of the blame on JP tonight. This game should have been moved up or moved to tomorrow. There were no TV networks to answer to. Another microcosm of a bad organization

To blame anyone for this is stupid.

This could have been handled better by the OP with an open letter.

Still would have a been a bad take but I am in a foul mood and I would really like to pummel someone who has posted an open letter.

For MANY of us - the act of buying tickets dovetails with our many acts of supporting Cyclones athletics through donations, pledges, tickets purchase, merchandise purchases, etc... so why not consider it part of your overall support for the program?

UNLESS you don't necessarily support the program but were only going to a football game for nothing more than leisure purposes - that would make sense and I would seek a refund myself.
This is at least a legitimate point. I disagree with the idea that you cannot be a loyal Cyclone supporter and also want a refund for a game that was cancelled. I have been going to football games for 30 years. I remember rushing the field in a game against Baylor in early 90s because we won ONE game. I also remember us playing for a big12 North championship in early 2000s .I went to that game and wondered why there were 20000 empty seats. One of the main reasons our fan base is growing is that ISU has treated the paying customers pretty good. This is unlike the U of I which treats the customer like it's a privilege that you are allowed to pay to watch their football team play. Maybe we could get a $$$ credit that could be used toward purchase of any Cyclone athletic event. Not because they have to but because it would be good business and would build goodwill and loyalty even more.

I guess a refund never crossed my mind. Mother Nature is hard to predict and leading up to the game my phone showed the weather was going to hold off. Absolutely nobody’s fault. As they say **** happens. This isn’t baseball or basketball where they play games back to back and 80+ games. We play 12 games in what 13-14 weeks ? It will be tough to reschedule and find a team that wants to risk injury for the extra game. It was great to be back in the stadium and it sucks it ended that way. Big game on Saturday and I’m pumped for some cyclone football.

I still want a refund but I want a win next week way more than that. **** the Hawks.

As others seem to not get this isn’t something you do Friday or Saturday. It is something you plan for early in the week like finding possible hotel accommodations for SDSU on Saturday. You work with all staff on the potential of an earlier start. Personally I think Friday or early Saturday they should have moved it up to 5 or 6. That doesn’t mean it is neccessarily the only or right solution. The game was likely going to go to 10:30 or so anyway so you want to give cushion and to let people leave before the storm. The main issue is there doesn’t seem to have been any planning for the possibility of the storms affecting the game.

The problem was it was to short well before they called it. As soon as that second cell formed it wasn’t possible. They still took 30 minutes to an hour to call it.
So you pay a hotel to hold 50 hotel rooms on a holiday/home football weekend??? You'd have to pay them whether or not the game was delayed, and you're asking the AD to do that 7 times. These hotels would need to be booked a few months before the season at least because traveling fans will be buying them up too.

Ok is this really the confusion here? No you don’t do this for every game. Yesterday was a weird weather setup. It is all situational and dependent. We probably won’t have to worry about this for many years to come. The issue is that they didn’t seem to have explored any possibilities if we had the worst case scenario like we did. Again the issue is they didn’t even pretend to have a plan.

I also am not real sure how logistically our current situation is easier to deal with. Now we have to figure out potentially a past minute game. We will also have to figure out tickets for that or if we don’t have another game maybe refunds. I’d much rather plan to get some sort of game in than deal with our current headache.

We won’t have to worry about thunderstorms in the end of summer in Iowa for years to come?

I know I haven’t lived there for over a decade now, but things have really changed, apparently.

The logistical challenges are enormous.

In order to do it for any game, you'd essentially have to plan it for every game. Even a day or two out is too late to make the arrangements

I live 2 hours away from most ISU Gridiron club events, yet still pay yearly dues since its' inception. I've been to only 2-3 Gridiron events total in all those years. I consider my dues a donation--to support the FB team. I know my $$ goes directly to the FB program---and I'm happy about that.

The fans b#tching about a refund for last night's game need to settle the fk down. This is new territory and a tough call for Pollard to make. He feels horrible that weather dictated this cancelation. The last time this happened was 55 years ago (after JFK was assassinated)

I'm sure Jamie isn't out to screw over ISU fans w/ the refund policy that doesn't exist yet for this weekend

The game was cancelled after it started, not before. That means that SDSU needed paid, anyone working the event needed paid, etc. etc. That is why there will be no refund. Not hard to figure out.
