Gateway Bridge Bids:

I was surprised by how low the bids were for the Gateway Bridge. Low bid was $2 Mil under the estimate with almost all bids being well under the estimate. Very good news, and i was worried they were going to be high.
Well. Reading that was informative.

The low bid was low by almost a million dollars. Will cost be the only factor?

And apparently the option of not putting stairs in the West tower and relocating the electrical room would save substantially more money than they expected. Almost sounds like an “oops” in there somewhere.

How long before they announce who won the contract?

Similar, but not quite the same... having said that, I'm fine with both although I do think it's odd they didn't use the same style. I'm sure there's a reason for that?

Has to do with the level of the walkway I think. SEZ you can see over it as walkway higher on the wall. NEZ walkway is lower relative to the wall so this allows some sight lines.

I wonder if with the savings they might put some more money into the new RV parking area or toward the Hilton project.

I know some folks who REALLY dislike the move of the RV lots. I don't quite understand it. I don't own one or anything but have spent a lot of time through the years in the RV area. Do people on here who buy those spots hate it or what are the other thoughts about this from those directly effect?

It will probably happen quickly with the favorable bids. Likely public next week I would guess

Honestly, I feel like those people are just lazy and don't want to walk that far. I'm in the RV lot and it IS nice to be close enough to go have a beer at half. That said, having an electric hookup would more than make up for it to me. Besides, they are moving it for the P&L area...that would be unreal to have bars are restaurants down there. It should be a huge overall improvement for pretty much everyone unless you are opposed to walking.

Sounds to me that people are simply doing the "I don't like change" reaction that is common among almost all humans. That being said, at ISU, donor status has historically been mostly represented by "close parking"--more so than even seating location.

The low contractor already won. It isn’t public information until then.

They are doing it so RV's can have electrical hookups and to have a permanent spot for when the Arts/entertainment District is built

But with that new big ass bridge, couldn’t you still accomplish the halftime beer? It can’t be that much father. Especially if your on the east side of the jack

Honestly, with a good product on the filed the half time beer isn't even worth it. I maybe do it once per season now and I wish JP would just get rid of the reentry policy.

The bridge is so needed. Traffic coming out of the stadium is worse simply because of the pedestrian traffic. Take the pedestrians out of the equation and the game day experience for fans is better with better traffic flow. Yeah, I know, I'm master of the obvious.

I think it has to do with being closer to the stadium and more people. It’s a social thing. I can see how they may feel that they are be regulated to the outskirts of the stadium and further from the energy.

I think our tailgating is better than most because we are all in one location. I tailgated at Missouri and it sucked due to the fact that they are all over the place. Moving the RVs - which I think is a net positive - starts to segment that a bit.

I currently have a spot in D4 and everyone in my party is ecstatic about the move to the new RV lot. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t like the move. Easier to get in and out of, electric hookups, with the downside of distance to the stadium will be longer be longer.

Perfect opportunity to take a beer and enjoy a nice walk to the stadium.

I think the new RV lot is a great idea overall. However, it is not going to be conducive to big tailgates like ours unless we can get a spot on the edge (with a grassy open area next to it. The interior spots are going to be too confined, even if we get a pair of facing spots.

I think a lot of it depends on where one's spot is in the current RV lot as well as seats in the stadium. I used to be in D1 and D2 and even sitting on the east side it too far to make it back in time after a halftime beer. It looks to me that many on the east side will actually be closer to the RV lot.
