While last night I think TJ played him too many minutes because he was struggling even in the defensive end down the stretch, this post is correct. Could the team be marginally better a game here and there by playing Tre or Grill 25 mins and Gabe 15? Maybe. But in the end for this team to be at its best it needs Gabe to play D the way he has most of the year and be OK on offense. To me that just means cut down on the TOs, maybe try to attack and get to the line. He’s had some recent bad games on offense. We knew that was probably going to be the case based on his Minn career. But prior to last night he’s been absolutely lights out on the defensive end.TJ continues to let Kalscheur work through it, because we absolutely need him and everything he can bring to finish the season in strong fashion. I'm convinced that he will get his offense going, and a lot of armchair critics will look as silly as they usually do.
For this team to win consistently it has to be elite on D. Probably the only path forward to achieve that this year is to play Gabe and try to help him get on track offensively. He doesn’t need to score much, just cut down on the TOs, especially the live ball TOs that lead to run outs.
