Kalscheur looks to be a good player

TJ continues to let Kalscheur work through it, because we absolutely need him and everything he can bring to finish the season in strong fashion. I'm convinced that he will get his offense going, and a lot of armchair critics will look as silly as they usually do.
While last night I think TJ played him too many minutes because he was struggling even in the defensive end down the stretch, this post is correct. Could the team be marginally better a game here and there by playing Tre or Grill 25 mins and Gabe 15? Maybe. But in the end for this team to be at its best it needs Gabe to play D the way he has most of the year and be OK on offense. To me that just means cut down on the TOs, maybe try to attack and get to the line. He’s had some recent bad games on offense. We knew that was probably going to be the case based on his Minn career. But prior to last night he’s been absolutely lights out on the defensive end.

For this team to win consistently it has to be elite on D. Probably the only path forward to achieve that this year is to play Gabe and try to help him get on track offensively. He doesn’t need to score much, just cut down on the TOs, especially the live ball TOs that lead to run outs.

Seems strange this thread continues to pop up when we had 3 guards combine for 52 points while our 4 bigs combined for 10.

this is also true. There is more than one problem.

Agree. A lot of season left to see how TJ and the coaching staff addresses them.

Chris Beard and Bill Self are probably thinking the same thing about their teams today.

I'm sure there's a Matt Thomas one from about 6-7 years ago that looks pretty funny now that he just got a guaranteed contract through the rest of this NBA season.

That's exactly how I'd like this thread to end up 6-7 years from now

No disrespect to a player intended, but if this thread is going to continue to be bumped, we should update the thread title to something accurate. It makes me chuckle every time.

How about, “Kalscheur looks to be one of our best perimeter defenders”?

As for the Gabe complaints, so he’s not the greatest offensive threat. Who cares? Every guard on the floor won’t be and doesn’t have to be a go-to offensive weapon.

He needs to drive to the basket that’s what Gabe can do but forget shooting from deep he doesn’t have any confidence!

Grill can’t handle the ball he just needs to

Grill can’t handle the ball what he does best is just catch and shoot! Defense is suspect to!
He hustles and scraps. Can shoot and has a knack for making heady plays which is nice. He can play at this level, he's just a lot more limited than pretty much any other guard on the roster

Glad Gabe shot that well tonight. I hope he keeps it up and I have to eat a lot of crow about his minutes.

I don't understand how this isn't the biggest take away of the game. Gabe has been in an obvious slump, and it didn't seem like there were answers to get him out of it. He played big time today, got out of his own head and rid of his yips. For me this is the only take away from the game as we need him to be the player he was today.

Without Gabe being more of a presence in the game, we would not be in the position to find nit-picky things, even if warranted, like the zebras.
