I guess I don't know anything about that as DJ was a going through the recruiting process a couple years prior. All I can say is that assumptions, clothed as fact, often run the roost around here.
You said in another thread Alex saw how they used a tight end like Bibbs and realized he wouldn't be a target here with our offense. Saying nothing puts more fuel on the fire than a benign truth imo. Donvt blame the kid for moving on if our system isnt best at utilizing him. Hell we lost a legacy tight end in Alex's class Iirc to Iowa because of how we use the tight end. I don't know enough about Alex but I thought I read at the time he was not a traditional prostyle tight end and a good fit for our offense. Am curious if that changed with Mangino using more slot receivers and such or if he has developed into a more traditional prostyle tight end?

That said am stoked about Thomas. Dude is a big and fast. We need a guy like him!

If you think it has to do with grade/eligibility issues, you haven't a clue then.

Well obviously you must have a personal relationship with him. I only know as much as what the staff tells the mangers and such, and that would be that he wasn't academically eligible. Sorry if that is false, but a lot of people think that is the reason. I didn't just make that up on a whim.

Out of respect for this kid Josh Thomas, and his welcoming crew, I'll post a response to this over on the "more players on the way out" thread.

Friggin' awesome. Welcome Mr. Thomas!

I've posted many times, Mangino loves having great rushing attacks. @ OU & KU. @ KU his best was with Brandon McAnderson, a 3-star commit coming to KU as a LB/FB

Ayeni did extremely well with the running game @ Toledo. Hope this combination & our stable of RBs make a big jump next season & beyond.
I have never doubted our RBs. We have had 2-3 good RBs every year under CPR, but the o-line has not done their job. Look at the long runs Shontrelle busted off as a true freshman behind a pretty good line. We got hyped that he was going to be really good for the next few years but it didn't happen. I know he had injury issues, but in his Jr and Sr seasons he was getting hit right after he got the ball.

His bigger issue his senior year was Wimberley beat him out.

And we haven't been able to run block in 3 yrs. A 1000 yd rusher is the barometer to me for having a good run blocking line. Wemplay multiple backs, but not because they are so talented either. Just hoping someone breaks one.

a RB picking us over Wisconsin is big and he just visited them so even bigger. They have a great RB history. Ayeni may end up being Rhoads best hire (though Mangino is a pretty darn good one)

First, I wanted to say congratulations on the commitment of Joshua Thomas. Going into Georgia and plucking a quality recruit out of there is no easy task. Wisconsin has just started to make inroads into the state over the last year and a half following the hire of Thomas Brown (former UGA running back and Georgia native).

Second, I do want to clarify that Thomas was not offered by Wisconsin as a running back, but as a linebacker. Wisconsin currently has three scholarship running backs, with two (potentially three) four-star backs coming in 2015, and another four-star currently committed in 2016. It's an already loaded position. Really would have liked this kid wanted to make the tackles instead of breaking them, but I completely understand his decision. Such is life in recruiting!

Anyone know if those offers - tOSU, Tenn, etc - were committable?

Who knows. Odd that he wouldn't have at least taken a few visits other than Wisconsin if these were all real. Pretty sure he was down to GT, Wisconsin and us. So that must mean at least GT and Wisconsin were real, which is good enough for me. We may have been helped by Wisconsin getting a commitment from 4-star RB Bradrick Shaw, which was their 3rd RB in the class, 2 of which were 4-star guys.

As stated, I don't really care how many of these are real-I do think he looks like a good recruit for us.

Thanks for clearing that up, and more importantly, thanks for letting us have your scraps!

I don't think I would refer to him as scraps! You have to be quite the football player to be recruited by Power-5 schools at two different positions. I think it is as simple as that - a player recruited at two positions and preferred one over the other.

Would have loved this kid on the defensive side in Madison, considering one of our four ILB commits is wavering and will likely end up at Miami (FL) or Virginia. Since Chris Beatty was not retained by Paul Chryst, and ended up at UVA, the current commit has been looking around.
