Is it just me or does the play calling seem not as aggressive as last week against OU?
Remember its a nonconference game. Game plan is just enough to win, but not showing the rest of the conference much to plan for. Its not pretty, but just how this staff operates.

This was a business-like win! Nothing wrong with that at all! The staff will coach positions up during the week and develop a game plan for TCU based on what they see! No complaints here...just win!

Not great but **** it. This season has been a clusterfuck of emotional ********. Glad for the W.

Also, how bad is NW?

I don't plan on overanalyzing this game. It was a **** week for ISU that was capped off by a win for the football team, as unspectacular as a performance as it may have been. A win is a win, especially since it's the first of the year.

Time to move on to TCU.

And how bad is NW? Probably about as bad as most of the Big 10.

Special teams had a great game and looked much better today.
Defense is playing very well.
Offense is a mess. No consistency. Can’t sustian drives. Puzzling play calls and substitutions at times. I know the line is a wreck but I think our biggest issue is that we should have hired an OC.

Lots of crazy subbing in today's game. Pretty sure DM was fine, based on the runs at the end of the game. Johnny Lang got quite a few carries today, Kene a few. DM is still the best running back by far, and the OL still sucks.

Could be true, could also be true the last 40 years I heard this excuse for not blowing out an opponent. I was even told this exact same thing by an ISU fan, in 100% seriousness after a loss to UNI in 1992.

As close as this game was at times, if we weren’t using our full arsenal to win and put them away, this staff should be fired. If we won by 30 and backed off in the second half, I would buy this excuse.

Don’t get me wrong, im not saying we are doomed or we won’t have a successful season, just tired of hearing this excuse for a poor performance.

So far the offensive play calling this season has been really bad. Thankfully we have good enough athletes to make up for some of it. After Zeb marched the team all the way down the field you bring in the freshman QB and the drive stalls, having to kick a field goal. What was with that? Nearly every time Zeb throws down the field, something good happens, yet we keep attempting them only 4 or 5 times a game if that. Zero times against Iowa. I just don't get this playcalling.

At least no wildcat calls today...

Just a wild ass guess, but I think the Purdy appearance may signal that he’s the back up next week and Campbell didn’t want his first snaps to come in that situation.

I get what you're saying, but the timing was bad. The offense was driving for a TD that would have put the game away... and they bring in Purdy and the drive stalls. Why not bring him in to start the next drive after the game is put away?

I agree, but with like 7:30 left you know you will get another drive, why bring him in there after Zeb took the team all the way down the field and when you know you can put him in the next drive? And then when we did get the ball with 2 minutes left and the obvious win, they didn't put him in? Its just odd.

It was odd, but in the end, it didn't matter. Could have, but didn't.

So it’s meaningful.

Noland is a promising QB for just his third start. Needs to get on the same page as the WR at times, but he really stood tall in the pocket today.

DM is amazing. He’s a 2,000 yard back with a good OL and less conservatism. Butler is an elite college receiver. Lang looks like he’s a weapon we could use if we ever decide to have a real offense. A lot of skill talent on this team. With our defense, most games we’re content with having the offense just stay out of the way until more is needed.
