Not a very impressive win, but it's win. I'll take it. Hopefully we play better in the next 3 weeks, which will matter a good deal if we're gonna make a bowl

So far the offensive play calling this season has been really bad. Thankfully we have good enough athletes to make up for some of it. After Zeb marched the team all the way down the field you bring in the freshman QB and the drive stalls, having to kick a field goal. What was with that? Nearly every time Zeb throws down the field, something good happens, yet we keep attempting them only 4 or 5 times a game if that. Zero times against Iowa. I just don't get this playcalling.

At least no wildcat calls today...

The most puzzling offensive call might've been a pass play on 2nd and 3, up by 10, with about 3 minutes left, within field goal range, opponent has 2 timeouts remaining. I know the running game is erratic, but two plunges ahead would've drained more clock or forced timeouts, and you're still in FG range. Run the ball in that situation.

For all the hand wringing and ********, fairly comfortable win.

Ferentz-like conservative effort, but the W is all that counts.

I was thinking about how much our offense today reminded me of the GDGD era at Iowa. Thanks for hammering that point home, I guess.

Could be true, could also be true the last 40 years I heard this excuse for not blowing out an opponent. I was even told this exact same thing by an ISU fan, in 100% seriousness after a loss to UNI in 1992.

As close as this game was at times, if we weren’t using our full arsenal to win and put them away, this staff should be fired. If we won by 30 and backed off in the second half, I would buy this excuse.

Don’t get me wrong, im not saying we are doomed or we won’t have a successful season, just tired of hearing this excuse for a poor performance.

really probably our most successful staff we have had in a long time in terms of recruiting and winning games and we should fire them? Please don't overreact like this. A Win is a Win. it's been an emotional week. Let's leave the knee jerk reactions for losses.

It was odd, but in the end, it didn't matter. Could have, but didn't.
I wonder if Zeb got slightly dinged on the previous play. He took a hit on the play that resulted in the PI call in the end zone.

Otherwise if you wanted to run a zone read look isn’t Mitchell the better option there? Either way I was super happy to not see Purdue throw it on either of those two plays.

Right. We had enough of an advantage to work on depth even if meant we sacrifice some success today. Putting Purdy in isn’t a big deal, although Noland could have used those reps too.

I’m more disappointed in continuing to make defenses look like the Iron Curtain because we’re content to have DM and the OL go 6 on 11.

Remember the days we were happy with a win? Now people are getting mad because we didn't win by enough. Teams have down games, I feel like people are forgetting how emotional this week has been. They played conservation, used clock, and didn't need to open up the play book that much. I'm happy with a win no matter how we get it. Just need 5 more at least now.

I'm elated with a win, and getting us on to next week. I feel like the only thing holding us back is our O-line right now. If we even have an adequate line, this team will be dangerous. Seemed better against OU, and then a step back today. Need some improvement for Big 12 play to get where we think we can go.

The OL needs improvement, but the game plan and playcalling are big factors too.

There’s a reason why we’ve struggled regardless of strength of the defense. Imo when facing good offenses like OU and we know we’ll need to score. Against teams in which our defense and ST can control the game, we’re conservative to a fault.

Very true. It is definitely baffling how our games are called from game to game. Let's sure hope the gameplans continue to improve as well as our team.

Has anyone seen Mike Warren this year? Maybe he has some special teams snaps but I can't remember seeing him on "regular" plays. I feel kind of bad for that dude.

Did you even read my post? Talk about "over react much." I said, if they are holding back and are willing to keep a game close or even take a loss in favor of getting an early lead, just to keep secrets from the rest of the Big 12, they should be fired. You play every game as it's the only game. Why do you think the phrase "trap game" is out there?

I never said this staff should be fired for this game. I meant it as, if they aren't willing to go out and play 100% for this game, are intentionally holding back, even willing to lose, just to protect "secrets" they should be fired.

If your read my post and could understand context before "over reacting" you'd realize that I was mocking the post I quoted, not the team or the staff. We played poorly today, fine, we got the win though. Quit making excuses for playing poorly as something like, "We were holding back the real plays for Big 12 play. I was making the point that this is a tired argument I've heard for 40 years.

Anyone DVR the game and could get a couple screen shots of Braxton Lewis holding the turnover belt? Would love a couple.

Looking ahead, TCU will be coming off two emotional games and might be due for a letdown. Obviously we need to play better than what we did today but I like our chances.

very happy with win i think we play very well next week and have a chance in 4th quarter. we need to get mean in those trenches and get that defense tightened up a bit. wonderful wonderful fg kicking. we wore em down with our solid play and some tough catches down the stretch.

I would guess it gets posted on YouTube at some point. I was surprised by how short it was

I thought the same thing in the moment. (Not complaining, just observing.) But maybe that was by design...the PA announcer sounded pretty choked up, and as short as it was it was plenty emotional. Stretch that out to a minute or two and everyone would be a damn mess.

give it time campbell is getting all the pieces in place. development is happening everywhere a perfect example is our special teams today. saw some rbs other than montgomery. saw more tips than we have had all season. things are coming together for a run at a bowl game. just have to see big improvement and we will.
