Just saw that too. 4 straight top 15 match ups for the Alamo. SA would have been great, but now I would be very surprised if we end up there. I do think we would take that city over compared to WVU, but it may not matter.

WV is 16th...and I dont see WV jumping TX or KY just because. No way committee puts WV past TX in rankings...

What does the Alamo prefer? A slightly higher ranked team or 15-20k more fans and tickets sold?...

What time will be the announcement?
Probably won't know until mid-to-late afternoon.

The New year's six bowls aren't announced until 2 p.m. central. So the other bowls will start being announced after that I assume.

They also look at TV ratings and the Holgorsen vs Leach would attract people. Don't get me wrong I will argue Iowa States case to go over WVU all day, but I'm biased lol. We will bring more fans I can guarantee that. I'm sure WVU told them that they will sellout their tickets too.

guessing when the game locations is released there will be a lot of added flights to that city. Not much for options to Florida right now

No way. Airlines just redid their schedules for the next 6 months when the time changed back an hour. Adding more flights would be really difficult. Particularly the small airports in Iowa.

You're just gonna have to pay a lot more or drive to Minneapolis, Chicago, or Kansas City

Brett McMurphy's final projections have us in the Camping World Bowl vs NC State.

Matt Campbell is a pretty hot name with the emergence of the Iowa State program. Is Will Grier going to skip the Bowl game?

Sister in Davenport aways get deals and better connections by driving to Chicago. I end up playing way more flying direct on Delta from MSP. Never any deals here but some good directs.

Bad news is as soon as people start searching online for flights the airline algorithms are going to start adjusting the pricing. It's like instant Uber peak pricing.

I selfishly hope the new mega stadium/city in LA creates or absorbs one or two bowls the week before the Rose Bowl to give us a chance at one of those. Also it's a great weather/vacation trip for other things. That and that we get the Holiday bowl back, already planning to drive to @UNLV in a few years.

Also if we go to the Alamo, look at flying into Dallas or Houston and driving.

Well Chicago is unique because it is a hub to multiple airlines. MSP is dominated by Delta and can name their price.

Outback is best case scenario for Iowa and that’s in Tampa.

Can someone explain to me how Iowa gets a Jan1 bowl game? They had 7 other teams besides themselves finish with above .500 ‘conference’ records in the big 10. Iowa went 0-4 against them and didn’t even play the other 3. Amazing.

I thought the Playoff Selection show was at 11 today? Wouldn't the NY6 be set as soon as the top 4 is known?

It starts at 11 but it is a 3.5 hour long show. Who knows how long they let the top 4 announcement drag out on the show..

I haven't been following bowl selection nitty gritty as closely as I've been following overall CFP ranking.

What chance does Texas have of NY6 bowl and does that have a huge effect on ISU's bowl options? In terms of who is actually playing well lately they definitely look the part.

As long as OU gets a playoff spot, Texas is guaranteed Sugar Bowl. ISU to Alamo or Camping.

If OU somehow misses the playoff, OU goes to sugar bowl, and texas probably isnt high enough to get a NY6 bowl. Texas to Alamo, likely WVU to Orlando, ISU to Texas bowl in houston.

From the NCAA website (note times are in ET):

  • 12:30 p.m.: Selection committee reveals the four playoff teams
  • 2 p.m.: Complete Top 25 will be revealed
  • 3 p.m.: Remaining New Year's Six games announced
