Since when is 6 points “decent”? Because he didn’t shoot as abysmally as we’re used to?The most CF thing is the one-game swings from player sucks to deserves to start. Both will play significant roles. Jones had a decent game and has demonstrated throughout the season that he can handle and plays really good defense.
Maybe somebody could give us a +/- comparison of the two?Since when is 6 points “decent”? Because he didn’t shoot as abysmally as we’re used to?
The fact that he played meaningfully fewer minutes tonight could be why he didn’t shoot as poorly. Coming into tonight, his last 3 games he was shooting 38%, 12%, and 11% overall while shooting 22%, 14%, and 0% from 3. All while averaging just shy of 30 minutes per game. Those are BAD numbers. This isn’t a 1 game swing.
Sure, Pav played his best game tonight by far but he was also given far more meaningful minutes and his first real opportunity. And he made something of it. Jones has been given every opportunity and has debatably cost us some games.
The most CF thing is being unable to admit that objectively bad numbers are bad.
Thanks Rulzzz!
Go Cyclones!
84 - 69 Clones.
If we hit 65%+ of our free throws, I'll raise a 2-fingered glass of scotch. To myself.
It was flat out stupid that Pav was sitting on the bench in those early games while ISU was up 30-40. I know the kid isn’t a great defender, but he needed minutes and the starters needed a rest.Since when is 6 points “decent”? Because he didn’t shoot as abysmally as we’re used to?

And I believe Dr. Marc Urquhart did it while he was in medical school! [This is not true. He went to John Hopkins for that!]
The Iowa game will be really, really tough.
Keep seeing this - why? They got drilled by Oklahoma and it’s at Hilton.
Always want to beat Iowa, but it would be a great win for this team. I too am a little worried about it.ISU doesn't guard the perimeter very well or shoot very well, and Iowa shoots very well, from the perimeter, and pretty much always plays above themselves for this game while ISU has been pretty erratic.
I like Tamin, a lot!Maybe he doesn't score as much (only because he doesn't shoot as much) but otherwise, Tamin Lipsey is the closest thing to Pete Maravich I've ever seen. Just like a magician on the court!
If you think that was a good defensive effort then I don't know what to tell you.The 2-win Prohm team lost 95-56 to an extremely mediocre Miss St team. It's okay to admit you were being ridiculous.
7 man rotation will wear this team down, unless they back off going balls to the wall in practice.Unfortunately, it looks like we only have a 7 man rotation until Ward comes back. Omaha just doesn’t provide anything and Watson can’t even get on the court. They need to get serious run in the cupcake games between Iowa and conference games.
You can get burned in the transfer portal. Just look at the hoks in football this year...Sounds like you need to go the portal for a new wife.
Omaha is going to play, He hasn't earned the minutes with his play but at some point hopefully something clicks.7 man rotation will wear this team down, unless they back off going balls to the wall in practice.
After King's 24 pts I wouldn't bet he takes minutes from him. Who else sits so he can play? Milan or Rob? I don't see Omaha leading the team this season. Maybe next, but he's definitely not a 1 and done like some were expecting. Be nice to get him back next season with the front court players we have leaving. The Cy-Hawk bball game has a history of unexpected heros, for both sides, so maybe next Thursday will be Omaha's time.
I agree with most of what you said. As far as Omaha's minutes, he doesn't have many minutes to give to someone else (Watson?). He played only 6 minutes last night. He had a really bad looking pass after he got stuck in the air. But that was Omaha's only turnover on the night so I don't think we should overreact to it.Thoughts on team after game:
1) We have a Tamin concentration risk. We seem overly reliant on him to will us to a victory. His toughness and play making are just off the charts.
2) Pav: offense clicked way better when he was in. Driving, slashing, ball movement. Needs more minutes, probably comes from Jones or Gilbert. Like him off the bench as a offensive spark when we need one.
3) Omaha: So lost out there. Top notch athlete who is unable to show any of that because he’s completely unaware and incapable of anticipating anything. He’s the exact opposite of Tamin in the awareness category. Watson should be getting all his minutes. I don’t see how something is going to “click” for him, he’s light years away from that.
4) We really miss Ward. Hope he’s healthy and ready to go when he comes back. Makes our defense so much better when we’re forced to switch on the perimeter versus BRE and King.
5) Curtis Jones: need him to be the shot maker He’s been hyped to be. Seen some glimpses now, need consistency.
6) Gilbert: when he’s rolling and attacking under control, let him ride it out. As soon as he starts forcing, get Pav in the game. If I were picking one key to our season, it would be getting him to play at his best.
7) All those flagrant 1 fouls were silly, all 3. Maybe that’s the rule now, but all 3 were basketball plays.
8) Milan: seems to really benefit from Pav slashing and better ball movement. Guy can flat out score, and we’re gonna need him a lot this year.
