Original design of Hilton

I'm surprised we just keep delaying renovations to Hilton. Seems like there have been different concepts out there for the past 10+ years and nothing ever happens. It's long overdue for a makeover and with the direction of the program headed in the right direction again now is as good as any time to start fast tracking it when it would be easier to get the support needed. The concessions and outer concourse especially has a lot of opportunity to maximize space better and maybe create some space for a few premium options if designed right. Probably due for a new scoreboard and just modernizing some of the "details" aspect of the building in general. The steps leading up to the south entrance are in poor shape and they closed off half of them already this winter. The steps on that side of the building could be a project by itself that could be done ASAP if they wanted.

I love Hilton and don't want to see it drastically changed and at the risk of hitting nerves of some here I feel we should have made renovations to Hilton a higher priority much sooner. I don't agree with making CyTown the higher priority at the moment as it seems like that project may get going and completed sooner then when they may ever get around to the current proposed plans for Hilton renovations.
Does Hilton renovations produce additional revenue? If so, additional revenue above projects of higher priority than Hilton reno.?

Wonder if there are any drawings of what the inside would look like

Also, Assembly hall is cool to see once but it's just a horrible layout.
Agree with Assembly Hall. Got to go on the floor there when my brother went to Bobby Knight's hoops camp.

It's a really weird design. And I hate the lack of seats behind the baskets.

Just saw this images that show the original design of what became Hilton Coliseum (and Fisher Threater, too).

Quite a bit different. Construction drawings were completed. Bids were taken but were too high. So the structure was resigned to what we have today. In my opinion, that was a blessing!

I had always heard that the initial design got nixed because they put "the salad bowl" in a wind tunnel and it would get airborne with about an 80 mph wind.

Hilton was put on the back burner due to conference realignment and the subsequent volatility of TV revenue.. Now that Yormark has solidified that, we will see Hilton changes in the next decade..

It's not priority one like CyTown as the cost benefit isn't nearly as high

I thought the real reason for the delay in Hilton renovations was due to our journey into Prohm Valley. No one wanted to pay for tickets, let alone renovations, untill something was done with Prohm.

That's a really ****** up-looking roof, architecturally. How would there not be water issues?
You’re not thinking about it correctly. Think of water from below and not above. This would’ve solved the flooding issues of the past. </jimlad>

In my opinion, part of what makes Hilton special is the inner concourse where before the game and at halftime people circulate and socialize. Finding an old friend and talking is part of the social experience of the game!
I'm glad Hilton is 2 levels. The balcony gives it more of a big time feel. Beasley Coliseum at Washington State is somewhat similar in design.

Surprised they are taking credit for a building renovation project that never got built.

They list a completion date and total construction budget.

Before Wells Fargo was built there was a plan out there to fill in the inner concourse with suites/seating and turn the voms around so the balcony would dump into a widened outer concourse. That would have upped the capacity giving Hilton a chance to compete with WF when it opened. As it happened they shot it down and the advantages of a larger WF capacity and location relative to the population center doomed Hilton to losing all of their shows to WF. A lot of tours liked coming to Hilton because Hilton did shows really well with good crews and easy access, but the additional seats (and additional revenue) was too good to pass up.

Imagine Hilton with a few suites and 16,000 seats crammed into that same size bowl. It would take crazy to a whole new level.

I also remember hearing about the design model failing the wind tunnel test. Something like a typical gusty but not outrageous wind creating hurricane level velocities at street level.

There was a different design of Jack Trice stadium. I remember seeing the rendering on Cyclone Report a few years back. Anyone else see that design?

Watching play in games and I've never noticed how weird Dayton's arena is. Started to Google pictures of why, and yep:
