Morgan came in with a program that was in much better shape, and tore it apart. McDermott was left with Morgan's mess.
So after 4 years a good coach would have been able to turn things around just a little bit at the very least right?
I like Greg. He is a good guy. He had some terrible luck when he took over and pretty much every talented player we had bailed on him. That was a terrible break when he first took over and there is no doubt about that.
I love ISU Athletics and want to see them be successful in all sports. I supported McCarney when he took over the football program when it was absolutely awful and it took him several years before we really saw any success at all. I was ok with that because football is a much longer building process then it is for basketball. Do I think GMAC was given time to turn the program around? Yes. Unfortunately he just isn't getting the job done and in basketball after 4 years of time on the job our program hasn't really made any headway in getting better and winning games. It sucks quite frankly. I understand there is a huge price that we would pay to make a coaching change at the end of the season but at what point does the damage to the program out weigh the damage being done to it?
I just think that there are too many red flags being thrown out at this point from the program to avoid looking into this much deeper. Burying our heads in the sand and just sticking with the old company line is not going to solve the problems we are facing.
Another poster on here commented that all of the people who are upset about the state of the program and are venting their frustration need to go find a new team to cheer for? Really? Being a real ISU fan means we just sit on our hands, shut our mouths, donate money, buy tickets, buy Clone gear, etc.... and never ask any questions about what is going on with the programs that WE fund? So the answer is for fans that love ISU athletics to take their donations, purchases, attendance, and passion elsewhere? How awesome. I didn't realize that ISU Athletics were in such a great position that they can afford to lose about 50% of the fanbase.
Wake up people. Questioning things that are going on with the program is a part of being a fan. Having an opinion is part of being a fan. Speaking your mind is part of being a fan. Just be glad at the end of the day that apathy hasn't set in yet and people still actually care enough about ISU Men's Basketball to ***** about it. Just be glad that we aren't at the stage that Iowa Basketball has entered into. Also keep it in the back of your head that we aren't as far away from joining them as you would like to think.
