The match-up to me is similar to our Orlando, FL tournament match-up against Gonzaga.... Definitely large size and style differences, we played well in that game, and imo probably should have won, I don't see any reason that we can't take this one home too. I do believe with the effort we have put on defense and rebounding the post-season, I really think we can play with about anyone, last night though it heated up as the game went on, we were not as lights out shooting as well which I think bodes well for this tournament run. I also thought the first half of the game we had Nevada winded, and we came in the 2nd half running the offense in prevent, which seemed like a counter direction as we allowed them to get back into the game and get their legs under them, I believe we should look to run at all cost with Purdue, take their size out of the game, use it against them.....

You must not have watched the same game as I did. We were CLEARLY outmatched underneath and weren't hitting anything. Do you remember how Burton literally put the team on his back and pretty much brought the team back to within reason the 2nd half? As a team, they HAVE to play better against Purdue. There was too much ISO ball against Gonzaga.

But yes, after reading their board it seems as if they struggle with quick and athletic guard oriented teams. Keep the pace up, be reasonable on the boards, and knock down some 3's and hopefully we have it!

LMAO at those poor pathetic hawk fans. You know I hate Iowa as much as the next clone, but I honestly and truthfully root for any Iowa team that is in the tournament as long as it doesn't impact my clones. Too bad for them there is only one real team from Iowa in the REAL tournament this year.

As for Purdue, they are probably the best 4 seed match up we could have hoped for. Swannigan is a beast to be sure but I watched them in the Big10 tourney and against Vermont and I wasn't blown away. He seems to think he is like a hybrid 4 like Burton and wanted to shoot jump shots when he is bigger, stronger, and better by a long shot than anybody Vermont had to throw at him. He should've had 25 points in that game. Haas is a big body that gets to the free throw line a lot (and makes a lot of them) but he sure seems to have a difficult time finishing baskets around the rim. Their guards are not very good but good enough. They like to spread the floor out and create space for big men or open up straight on driving lanes. Mathias can hit the 3 but they are not a huge threat from 3 point land. I wouldn't be shocked if they go a little smaller and put that Edwards or whatever in as the 4 and use Swannigan as the 5. Haas is pretty worthless given how big and athletic he appears to be.

Just so you Hawk fans are aware, there is a fine line between "cocky" and confident. We are confident because we are playing really good and confidence is everything this time of year. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while so keep clinging to that meaningless victory 3 months ago! We're going to worry about advancing to the Sweet 16 for the 3rd time in 4 years.

I think you let Solomon check Swanigan for a while, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us go small. We've really adopted a team rebounding mentality. We will give a few up, but I think anything we give up we get back in making Swanigan and Haas guard the perimeter. With their apparent weakness being giving up penetration, pull those two away from the hoop and go to work.

Am I the only one that thinks Young will do okay against Swanigan, Young has shown some good strength lately. Young is all of 240 also.

You're not alone. If you asked me 3 or 4 weeks ago my answer would be different. We're getting after the boards and playing that Tenacious D! Young knows he has an opportunity to prove himself Saturday night. Lets hope he is up for it!

His 2nd year, out in a Las Vegas tourney.
Then stories started breaking about Kentucky (or others) reaching out to Wesley Johnson, and our injury/transfer dramas started to boil over.

Showing my age here (but I was young at the time...really!), but we played them 2-3 times in the 90's. I remember playing them Hoiberg's jr. or sr. year and losing at the end on a questionable call at a tourney in Hawaii. We didn't show up for the awards ceremony due to this.

When Swanigan sits (probably won't be very many minutes, but he will sit at some point) we need to go extremely small. Burton, Babb, Thomas, Naz, Morris for a line up. They won't be able to play Haas in this scenario and if they do we will shred them. Our athletes >>>>> their athletes.

"All of eastern Iowa will be rooting for you.

This is the last year for a while you'll hear of them in the NCAA tournament. All seniors but one one and nobody left in the state penetentuary to offer a pardon and a scholly.
Lots of future food servers, janitors and felons on this team."

I'm not saying Solo couldn't hang with Swanigan. He will be an important matchup, although I think you may see Burton guard him. I just don't think you try to beat them at their own game. You mix in some of him checking the bigs, but I think you also go small at times and force them to guard the perimeter.
