This is the 3rd coach and the 3rd offensive system since AA has started here. This was the first time that he got the extra 15 bowl practices.
Yes, he made some mistakes yesterday, especially the two interceptions. But the two fumbles......one was a pretty hard hit, and the other was a missed snap/exchange. When you have a qb that you expect to run as much as he does, you are risking the possibility of fumbles, especially once the defense can key on him running.
AA also was 19 of 26 for 216 yards, and had 76 rushing yards. Total offense of 292 yards out of the qb position is not too shabby. Also, he rushed for 2 of the 3 critical first downs on the final time-consuming, game-winning drive.
A win is a win. I also think AA will show a lot of improvement next year with another Spring, and another set of Fall practices with the same coaches and the same system (plus most of the same receivers and backs). I really think next season could be a great break-out year for AA, even if it is his last. Hopefully, Tiller is improving as well.
I can remember back to 1971 and 1972. In 1971 ISU had Dean Carlson at qb, and George Amundson at tailback and went to a bowl. Then Carlson graduated, and people were concerned about the plan to switch Amundson to the full-time qb position the next year. Amundson responded by taking ISU to another bowl, being names All-American, and being named Big 8 player of the year, ahead of Heisman trophy winner Johnny Rodgers from Nebraska.
So you never know what might happen. I think AA, and Tiller will be fine with this staff.
