Biggest noncon game in recent memory: Michigan @ ISU on 11/17. That is a ******* must win game.

Must win for the current team? No, but a must win for the future of this program? Sure, but at least make it competitive (like, um, Iowa States "lose" to Kansas) that would be just as good. But win this game, and boy the future of this program will be flying high.

Also, the #1 rated SG for 2014 on 247 sports is down to Arizona and Kentucky. The majority of insiders predict that he will go to Arizona.

Also, Kansas is going after the #2 ranked SG on 247 sports named Kelly Oubre (a teammate of Rashad at Findlay this year) and seem to have him in the bag.

Hopefully if these guys sign with these schools it can shy Rashad away from attending these schools or lower his interest.

I don't know that a win is key. I think a huge crowd is key. I think the students going all out for Vaughn is key. There was an interview a radio station in Minneapolis did with him not long after he was down for the Baylor game. He mentioned that the crowd was great and they were doing chants and they had a bunch of posters for him. He was impressed. The interviewer then asked why Minnesota fans didn't do that type of stuff when he was at their games and he said he didn't know.

It would obviously be best if Iowa State was competitive that game. But that atmosphere and the crowd will be the biggest key.

I'm showing up to that game expecting a win. It's Hilton Coliseum. I don't care if we are playing a team ranked #1 or #101. I expect to beat anyone and everyone in Hilton.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Any speculation on what Fred says on an in home visit?? I'm assuming he doesn't use Travis Ford's techniques begging him in a girly way to come to ISU. It would probably go like this: "Alright, we all know I'm dreamy and you want the ball in your hands. I'll make you the best shooter on the floor and well, we already know you're going to postersize some wannabe's. How about you lead a couple teams on, but sign with the good guys in the end."

NBA connections will be played hard. He can go to Baylor and regress, and no offense to Dave Rice, seems like a good coach, but I don't think the guy has step foot outside the Mountain West conference. NC has definitely recruited some great players, but Fred has proven to be great at recruiting and assembling teams. He would be the centerpiece of the team, unlike at KU and UNC. As for Minnesota, you don't want your mom to be in striking distance of showing up at your place at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

There are some people, including myself, that think Rashad Vaughn is pulling a ISU/Harrison Barnes tease with Minnesota right? What if he may be doing that do UNLV as well. I would imagine a lot of people in Las Vegas would be upset with him if he cut UNLV off of his list today. Just some food for thought...

Do you think people that live in Vegas are really that tuned in to recruits living there that might attend UNLV?

If I was living it Vegas I'd pretty much have a one track mind of what games are they currently spreading at Bellagio.

Michigan isn't a must-win game, it's a must-impress game. Michigan is a top 5 team this year and this is Hoibergs 2nd worst team since coaching. The crowd needs to be loud and cheering all game, but this game won't be a factor at all in Vaughns decision.

This.

We need to blow the roof off of Hilton to impress Vaughn. As long as we have a competitive team, its up to the fans to be loud and crazy.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

If you can pick 1 non con game in the last 10 years that you want to win, this is #1, in my opinion. A top recruit is going to be in the house, getting a win would sure send some good vibes all around Hilton. His last memory of Hilton was that great game (win) against Baylor. Even though it's not likely, the best chance to get a commit that weekend is to get the W.

I don't agree at all that this is Fred's 2nd worst team but that's for a different thread.

Just out of curiosity, what team do you think is? Surely not his second year team, and though we return Ejim and Niang we don't have exactly the greatest replacements for Clyburn and Lucious.

Well, this team is probably the highest rated nationally coming into the season. I'd probably say last years team was the second worst. Even though we lose a lot off of last years team, we also bring back two 4 year starters, an all Big XII candidate and a top 50 recruit in the starting lineup.

To be honest though, it's hard to differentiate between the 3 teams. You could make a case for any of them, I suppose.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Total predictions are now up to 34. So 2 of them are new predictions, and 2 must be updated predictions.

You never know who can step up. Guys get better. Teams get better. This can be discussed at the end of the season. When we beat Kansas and secure are lock in the sweet sixteen.
