Re: Rashad Vaughn

You wanna know something funny? I just googled "most consecutive NIT appearances", and google laughed at me and said "did you mean 'most consecutive NCAA apperances'?".

It's the same thing. Don't you know there were four teams playing the national championship this year?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Sorry but you can't get beat in the round of 32 and say you were screwed out of a final four.

We had our moments and could beat just about anyone but never showed enough consistency to make me think we would have been a shoe in to win 4 straight against tourney teams.

So, what would you say to Hoiberg who said that he thought we had a very good chance to make the Final Four if we beat Ohio State? I think many of us are just saying the same sort of thing he said.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Final 4? If we were Final 4 worthy, there were probably at least 16 teams that were Final Four worthy. We're getting a bit carried away here.

And I wish the hawks didn't stick their nose into this thread. Focus on trying to get another NIT, so that your future looks even brighter.

How is that getting carried away? I would say most years there are around 16. This year, how many teams would you need to list before you got to WSU? More than 16.

Of course for many of those 16 or so, it is all about match-ups, fortuitous bounces, someone else upsetting a team "in front" of you.

This particular year, yes we more than likely would have been in the Final Four if we hadn't got screwed, again. In any other region, no we probably weren't realistically making the Final Four.

He said that at ISU pep rallies, aka Tailgate Tours. If every coach in the Sweet 16 doesn't say they had a good chance at a Final Four at a rah rah event, then I would question what he was doing. That being said ISU has only been to one Final Four ever and that was when there were no teams in the Tourney. Better teams than last year's fell short of a Final Four so a lot of things would have had to go right. It's like fans that say ISU was the champ in 2000 if they had gotten past MSU. I thought at the time that it was was probably the best chance I was ever see going to see in my lifetime of ISU winning a title in basketball (and I hoped to live for another 60-70 years at the time), but it was far from some foregone conclusion like I get the feeling some truly believed it to be.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Talking about ALMOST making the Final Four (except for not making the Sweet 16) is for losers.

Let's not be losers.

Edit: Let's try not to be losers.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I honestly believe he does that to mess with people like us. Good for him too.

@mplsbruin: @ShowtimeMr You must be a Bruin! Take it from a fellow Minnesotan - Bruin Hoops will be fun again under Coach Alford!

Maybe it was just one UCLA tweet, and be just finds it funny like I do.

Alford really doesn't think he can get in on Vaughn this late... then again, I bet he does.

I don't know why you think people believe it was a forgone conclusion. But it is OK for fans to think it was possible that last years team could have made it to the Final Four. My god, we are allowed to think and speculate and have thoughts. Sometimes Iowa State fans go to far in this direction. It is the very worst quality about Iowa State fans. If anyone dares to have a thought that isn't 100% backed up by facts, then they shouldn't say it. Good ******* grief. Was last year's team a sure bet for the Final Four if they had beat Ohio State? Of course not and NO ONE IS SAYING THAT. But Iowa State had just as good of a shot as anyone. I became a believer last year that the style of play that Iowa State plays is a huge help in those tournaments. Teams haven't played a team like Iowa State before and it shows.

As far as Hoiberg saying this team could have made it to the Final Four. He DID NOT just say at at Tailgate Tours. He's been saying it in almost every interview since the NCAA tournament---national interviews and local interviews. I truly believe he thought that and that is why he looked so horrible after the game. Hell, I think that is is why he thought about Minnesota.
