Re: Rashad Vaughn

My hopes are not very high on Vaughn coming here. However, what keeps us in the running is that he wants to get up and down the court (precisely what Hoiberg likes to do) and he likes good fan support (he saw it against Baylor) and his parents seem to want to be able to come to as many games as possible, if he went to ISU or Minny they could attend every game easily, go to UK/UNC and they couldn't

I'm sure UK or UNC would just pay to fly his parents to every single game. I know that's illegal, but since when do schools like UK or UNC have to follow the rules?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Don't shoot the messenger but heard that the leader for Johnson is Louisville where he has visited. Sounds like he just keeps moving up the rankings, too. Pitino and Izzo will be hard to beat if they want this guy. Gosh, Abu,,, ISU not even listed as 'warm' on Meyer's 247 site. (not sure what that site is worth, tho) Man, the competition for these guys is fierce. If a person really thinks about it, once the top kids sign with a dozen or so of the elite programs out there, there just isn't that many top 100 players left to go around to all these BCS level teams having been in the NCAA's like us.

As each day passes, I become less and less optimistic about him coming here. I didn't think Mister would commit to us either though, so my bad judgment is a good sign for us

Re: Rashad Vaughn

That's why I felt if we can pull Johnson who I think there is a better chance than Vaughn, I could see us getting Macura and maybe Cunningham? Top 100 players is no joke to pull

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I don't think Johnson has been offered by Louisville. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

which pretty much points to playing at a high high high major. I think its unrealistic at this point to think we have a legitimate shot at him.
Not necessarily... In fact by that argument he would be more likely to go to ISU than Kentucky.
Big 12 >>> SEC
The difference in competition between his Minnesota high school opponents and NCAA's major conferences can't be compared.

He is changing to prep schools because he was going up against guys that were not even close to his level every night. At the prep schools he will play against stiffer competition and he can learn how to play game in and game out against that competition.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

We did watch RV today FYI

Not trying to be a naysayer or a smarty pants, but wouldn't we watch him anyway cuz someone is at the event? While there to watch others, too?

I dont think Hoiberg and co. would be wasting time with him if they thought they had absoultely no shot. Also, I know there just kids at age 17 and 18 but man it sucks that a lot of these highly touted players just play hard to get (cant blame them) but it'd be nice if he'd at least narrow his list down to 5 schools or so, at least we'd know if its worth it to go after him anymore.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't want one and done players. I want solid guys that we can cheer for, for 4 or 5 years like we did for Fred. Yes, Royce was fun to watch, but it's just not the same.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I couldn't imagine being a 16, 17ish year old regular guy getting hounded regular by fans and schools to come play for them.

I wouldn't want a team full of them but we don't have to worry about that. I would take a one and done every year for that game changer ability. Just like Kansas this past year, having McLemore was the perfect last starter on a team full of seniors.

Exactly....I don't think we have to worry about becoming a team full of them, but one and dones are nothing but good for a school like Iowa State.

I think the staff already knows. At the event, regardless, so why not watch him, too.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Did you read the article? ISU text Vaughn to tell him we would be there to watch him play.
