Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Haven't read the thread, but I really hope there is some misunderstanding, because this is ******* ridiculous. Pollard better change that up with Prohm, because if we get a crap reputation for being cheap it will hurt recruiting.

So far it's all been refuted by JP and Fred on Murph & Andy.

If Fred didn't feel strongly that this is inaccurate then he WOULDN'T have taken time from his current job to comment.

Yep - I am 100% sure Hines could find some sources to spew crap. Especially anonymous.

100% sure JP and CFH did not see eye to eye on everything. To expect so is to be a fool.

100% sure CFH would not take the immediate time to refute the general gist of the "story" if he did not feel it was a BS move.

100% laughing at the people that swallowed this hook, line and sinker and sharpened up the JP pitchforks.

100% pleased their posts are recorded here for posterity. So much humor.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

This is why I hate that the media can get away with using "anonymous" sources. Clearly Hines didn't just make this stuff up and was told this information. The people who fed him this stuff are just as big a problem as Hines. Lets see if he grows some balls and reveals where he got his information. Probably some donors that don't like Pollard and gave their opinion on things he's done to make him look bad.

All journalist do this because a lot of the people who give this type of information lose their jobs then the journalists lose their sources and in turn their jobs. If you only cover information that anyone can get them well you're kind of worthless as a journalist.

Hines is an excellent journalist and ISU fans are lucky to have him. Sounds like he got some bad info from someone who was deemed a reliable source that had an axe to grind against JP

He is a bad journalist if he can't tell that this is fishy. The whole thing was weird from the beginning.

Well he just made a big mistake, so calling him a excellent journalist is debatable.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

All the outrage at JP from earlier in this thread needs to be directed towards Hines 100 fold.

Crap article, with crap examples, with crap sources to smear our basketball program. Now the national media will run with it and never follow up with the truth, which is terrible press for us.

Who do we want fired now? I'm getting lost!

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Thread summary:

1. Hines posts article.
2. FIRE JP, HE MADE FRED LEAVE
3. JP refutes components to story.
4. Fred confirms JP's refutes.
5. HINES IS A CLOWN AND SHOULD BE FIRED.

This reeks of a small town newspaper desperate for traffic.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

its called fact checking though - something it doesn't appear Mr. Hines did very well....

The way he blew that hotel thing out of proportion is what makes me question the authenticity of the entire article. If he embellished that story, he probably embellished every part of the article. It's too bad, because nobody wins with this now.

Unless Hines is lying, the article says he talked to "double digit" people who all said the same thing. To me, multiple donors were in on this axe grinding.

Damn you people. I have listened to KXNO more times in the last 2 weeks (Coach MAcs interview and now this drama) than I have in the last 6 years. ugh I feel dirty

I tried yesterday, but so much Hawk crap every time I check in, I couldn't take it. Was just getting the play by play here today, much easier than actually listening.

Even if there is still merit to this story Travis did himself no favors by what appears to be blatantly ignoring the process of fact checking and not giving JP more of an opportunity to refute the sources.

Fire Pollard!

Fire Hines!

All within 3 hours. This explains CycloneFanatic in a nutshell.

Probably going to be "Fire Me" if I don't stop clicking this thread, but it's so hard to look away from the carnage...

A lot of people need to go back and read what they posted a couple hours ago. And not surprisingly, I wouldn't expect any less from those who jumped to the fastest conclusions. Critical thinking is a gift not a lot of you have.

He should have got the other side of the story before going with it. Reporting like this story gets people fired.

He did contact JP, who's reaction made it all the more plausible for him to publish it. Then JP back tracks on the radio and takes shots at Hines.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Fred will always put isu first doesnt mean there is 0 truth to the article. I would have left out the hawaii trip bc that just seems ridiculous. I thought JP seemed cheap way before this article but i dont fully understand the restraints he has to work with. ISU is not a national brand but the basketball team should be held in a higher regard since it is one of the few programs that does well and makes money

Some people already have their mind made up that they want JP out.

This article/smear story is the exact opposite of something an excellent journalist would publish. Never had a strong opinion on hines either way until now. What a clown.

Hines went from "glad someone had the balls to write that" to "trying to sabotage our program" in one afternoon. This thread is fantastic

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

Here's my guess:

There is some truth to the parts about friction between Pollard and Hoiberg, especially about how they touted his pay, possibly about some of the other stuff. The rest was from an ex assistant coach with an axe to grind and/or Hines taking some small complaints from people around the program ("man, it sucked we had to check out and then wait around in the lobby", "I hate having to buy tickets", etc...) and blowing them up as if they were real issues.

Re: Travis Hines: A look into the ISU BBall program and the Athletic Dept

This is all on Hines. Think about it. He used un-named sources, which he apparently couldn't even precisely enumerate and presented what they told him as fact, obviously without doing enough fact-checking. If all he did was check with JP the day before publishing, and did not follow up what JP probably told him with Fred.......then he is an idiot as a journalist, and probably needs to move on to a smaller town or something. It seems pretty obvious now that the article was written for sensationalism or something. Whatever his plan was in writing it, it seems to have backfired badly.
