It's pretty clear that Hines didn't just make this crap up. For the people wragging on Hines get over yourselves he is doing his job. He had 10 sources stating that Pollard is known as a penny pincher and doesn't treat the coaching staff and players of a Big 12 top ten program with the respect they deserve. It isn't the first time I've heard this Hines didn't pull this crap from left field. Hoiberg is a class act you don't think he is going to stand behind Pollard? Of course he is! Its the Ames Tribune we aren't talking the NY Times here. I don't think it is why Hoiberg left but I can guarantee you Pollard got under Hoibergs skin. Penny pinching AD or private jets and world class athletes? Tough choice. cut and dry story if you ask me I don't understand all the extremists on one side or the other.

Now that this somewhat poorly written, one-sided article that's based on random opinions from sources not named Fred or Jamie, has been published by this average reporter for a small town newspaper......and has forced the main two participants to defend themselves publicly and will unfortunately put our athletic program in a bad light....I request that this Travis have to get on the radio as well and defend his story as much as Fred and Jamie had to refute it. It's the least that he can do, for what all his "unnamed sources" with all of their opinions (that don't really matter anyways) has done to make the ISU program look bad.

I read the entire thing twice and my reply stands. The fact that you don't understand my rational response is telling. If you like coming home and going to games and seeing your family and your home regardless of truth you quickly shut down any article that speaks for you or puts that university or your former boss in a negative light. Simple as that. I would have been shocked only if Fred didn't do this. You obviously don't believe Fred when he says he loves Iowa State.

No, he had "nearly double digit" sources (which could be anywhere from 5 to 9, but not 10)... and he over sensationalized people checking out of their rooms at 12pm for a 6pm flight that they probably had to be at the airport by 4pm for. Now because of his over sensationalization we are getting things posted like that yardbarker story that opposing schools will point to to keep people from committing to ISU based on utter lie. So yeah I think there are reasons to be a bit upset with Hines even if you believe everything but the "horror" of checking out of a hotel at 12pm is absolute truth.

This is the part I don't quite understand....if these sources (almost double digits) felt this negatively towards our athletic department why do they hide? Come out and say who you are, answer questions, and stick up for Hines! Until this happens I will not believe anything in the article.
Because they don't want to **** off the boss. (Even though I'm not sold on the article)
This won't happen, but it seems pretty likely that these "almost double digit" sources had a personal agenda to push against Pollard/ISU.

I agree the fact that they had to check out of their hotel at noon for an evening flight or whatever isn't the worst thing in the world. At the same time you can bet your last penny coach K and his boys aren't laying in a hotel lobby for five hours. You think Bill Self is down there doing cannon balls in the pool? This isnt a fricken highschool field trip here. Hines just outlined one example of Im sure many the lack of professionalism and respect Pollard extended to a Big 12 basketball program. It was The Mayor for crying out loud do everything in your power to give him everything necessary don't short change him. I think Fred was out the door regardless but I'm sure Pollard made his choice that much easier.

Bit of both really. Fred and JP did a pretty thorough job of explaining/debunking vast tracts of that story. The checkout at 12 for a 6pm flight (which wasn't JP's call), the people who got the option of having travel paid to the NCAA or to Hawaii not both (agreed to by Fred in advance). And the assistant coaches having to pay for tickets (they have had to pay tax only, which is typical across the NCAA).

If the story was instead that ISU paid say $5000 to get rooms that they were using for 4 or even 6 hours I am pretty sure we'd be having an argument on how wasteful we are with our athletics money. So basically JP (who again does not set the travel plans for our sports teams) cannot win on something he was again not involved in in any way.
