Well unfortunately for me it was the only taunt I had left towards Iowa fans by halftime..."Well at least we're not a bunch of criminals."

Pretty weak, I know. But now I have to to change it to "At least none of our players have been indicted on a felon charge!"

That does have a nice ring. How about:

"Our players may roll a fattie, but at least they won't rape you or beat a cabbie."

Exactly. It appears that for many posters, the concern is what their hawk friends will say, rather than doing what is right for the program and for the players involved.

Oh how the worm has turned.

You can't have it both ways... How many arrests until a Cyclone fan can be outraged... why don't you tell us?

A lot more than we've had...that's for darn sure. We've been a pretty darn clean football team and I'm proud of that. We should all be proud of that. Too get the lynch mob out for a couple players with seeds in their bedroom is idiotic.

I can't give you an exact number, that is up to the individual. However, I do know that if you are "outraged" over an OWI and a possession charge, you are being entirely unreasonable, and are way too high strung. There are 85 scholarship players and dozens of walk-ons on the team, these things will happen.

Heck, one basketball player had both those charges within a month (Vroman).... and he was suspended for one game. It proved to be the correct decision for both the Iowa State basketball program and the individual player, as Vroman helped us win many games that year and was drafted in the 2nd round of the NBA draft. Kicking him off the team would have been a negative for both the basketball program and the individual.

Urine tests are on the way out. Swab tests in the mouth are getting to be the testing preference used by many businesses now.

AGREED cloneice - but, the student athlete code of conduct was created for what? So that a grey area on the sideline can allow the AD and Coach to reinstate as they deem fit....well to me, the student athlete code is exactly what should happen....

Suspend the player effective immediately and allow them to sit out until the process has run its course.....To compare it to EIU, do you really think the process would take as long as its taking for Clayborne to get his trial or plead done if he was sitting....i dont think so...he would have pled out and sat a game or two but been done.

To me, OWI and possession is an easy charge in this case especially with two players admitting guilt. For such cases, suspend the players from game activities only 2 games. Second similar offense 4 game, third scholarship yanked. At least this way, there's no evaluations, no appearance of preferential treatment and the young men know what their up against. I mean for those people that say um Boys will be boys.....

Really ask your company if they have any policy in place should you test positive for drugs, i don't think you will like the outcome of that policy.....

IF imo you remove the grey areas and take away the ability for coaches to have to pass down judgements, instead, show the manual and ensure everyone understands this is UNIVERSITY policy, its out of the coaches hands and the player does not feel like the coach is sticking up for him or me situation. Thats where ferentz has found himself as we've discussed many times because he has handled situations differently because he determines the severity of the punishment.

The university has an obligation to its students, alumni and anyone associated to that school to uphold the rules that are in the best interest of the university. I do not believe that having three individuals and two of whom have admitted guilt reinstated is in the best interest of the university.

I want these young men on my team, and feel the offense is not as severe as some. However, this staff has been preaching all spring, summer and fall about discipline. To me they teach how DISCIPLINE benefits the team between the white lines but also off the field.

No offense, but I for one am sick and tired of why as Cyclone fans we must make decisions on how that makes us stack up to Iowa, or make us look to Iowa fans, etc.

And perhaps if we are not looking to be judged by those we have judged, we should have not judged in the first place.

BAM!!!!!!!!!

True, obviously. If this happened in Iowa City with the same result, we'd be peeing all over ourselves.

You can throw down the 30 tickets/arrests, but in reality, we have had more players in trouble in the last 4 months than they have.

Turning yourself in for a warrant is not an admission of guilt. It's turning yourself in so the police don't come and arrest you. Have you actually seen these players admit guilt? I haven't.

Apparently you have seen drug test results also. Weird.

If my house has pot, pot seeds and drug paraphernalia in it, I'm ok with someone assuming that I smoke pot.

I didn't see where the police said they had pot? Even if they did you are saying every story is 100% cut and dry; there is zero chance for anything else going on? Couldn't be anyone elses? What if they come back 100% clean on a drug test?

Then they could be dealing it, which would be worse.

What purpose would someone have to possess pot seeds?

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but if the cops arrest someone, I'm of the opinion that they deserved to be arrested. Now, the legal process won't always allow the charges to stand or for them to be found guilty, but that doesn't mean that they didn't do what the cops said they did.

I'm old school in this regard. If you're arrested, you more than likely did what they said you did. Whether or not you're found guilty is another story.

How many people on here have possessed pot seeds?

For those that answered yes, please explain the circumstances that led to you possessing them.

Cleaning my room once, found a frisbee under my bed with a few seeds... Probably left over from a party at my place but weren't mine...

This is purely an Athletic Department procedure, for all we know they could still be suspended by the team... Because of their arrest and the Student Athlete code of conduct they are immediately suspended pending review... Obviously, the review found them able to be reinstated, but they could still be suspended by the Coach/Team.

I'm guessing the search is going to be found illegal as the warrant was based on a "black guy with dreads" smoking by the dumpster... Doesn't sound like probable cause to me.

Ok, wow.

So either CPR is more lax on discipline than... well, pretty much anyone (which can't possibly be the case), or, there's more to this story than what was reported/what's on the surface.

They were only smoking rolled ragweed.
