Am I the only one seeing more positive numbers than what the networks want us to see? 7.2 million watched TX vs OK last year. Yes. A big number. BUT, 6.7 million watched ISU vs OR which out drew OK's bowl. More watched ISU's game against OkSt than watched Texas in their bowl. Outside of 'Red River Rivalry', I just don't get the big viewership argument.

Clearly Iowa State has 'viewership' the media outlets want us to believe isn't there.

I keep going back and forth on this. On the one hand, The B1G will need inventory. On the other hand, ISU would have to bring in a minimum of 55 million a year for the B1G. There is no way our per year valuation is that high. B1G won’t do anything. I know we are a fit anyway you look at it, but the birth lottery didn’t work in our favor. I think the PAC12 should be the play or prepare for life in the AAC.

It‘s just the way the cards will almost certainly play out. It has nothing to do with Iowa State’s fan support, passionate viewers, facilities, coaches etc. it just comes down to nothing within their control. Small market that is saturated anyways and just not adding any money to a big conference. It’s really sad for me and I’m sure everyone but that’s just the way it is. I hope to gosh I’m wrong but I don’t think I will be.

If we don't get a B1G or Pac invite, then I would assume those conferences aren't expanding and the Big 8 schools remain together. In that case we probably add BYU and Cincy and continue on, battling the Pac for the status of weakest P5. That is our floor here.

The only case where a B12 school ends up in the AAC is if the majority of the B12 find P5 homes and a few are left behind as the conference dissolves. If that happens, I expect us to be one of the schools with a new home.

In the case of the bowls last year there was very little overlap overall. There weren’t really any bowls of note Competing against each other directly.

Same for OK and TX bowls, but we outdrew both of them too. What I'm saying is the networks promotional effort AND the competitiveness of the league draw crowds more than top heavy lopsided competition. Yes, the SEC will outdraw on their top tier games pitting their best, but the bottom won't do much. AND, in no way, does it correlate to the numbers they're trying to paint on the remaining B12. This could get even more interesting if 'defamation' claims start rolling in.

Just so I understand things clearly, the grant of rights and conference bylaws:

1. Ensures that whether all the teams are still here or not, the full value of the TV deal is paid to the conference for the full term of the deal.

2. Provides that as soon as a member opts to leave the Big 12, they are no longer a voting member for the period until they leave.

3. Requires a penalty be paid by parties who wish to leave the deal that is based upon the TV partner's "look in" provision when conference membership changes, to make up for any losses the conference has when those teams leave. This is to ensure that whatever cost the conference takes for losing the team(s) is borne by those teams.

4. The only way around these contractual obligations to the Big 12 is in a case where the Big 12 members vote by a supermajority to take a torch to the whole deal.


Is my understanding of this accurate?

Where things will get VERY stick is when the lower tier of football can't 'challenge' the upper tier to prove superiority. Instead, the upper will always rely on marketing hype which they will always win because they've already bought into it.

Think about what you just said (or maybe I'm just confused). OK and TX are STILL active members. Any court will negate the contractual obligation of OK and TX to fulfill, allow them to leave immediately, and leave the B12 with nothing.

We wouldn’t be violating any rules. I believe the by laws might even say Texas and OU are no longer voting members. But if you’re that worried about it then Texas and OU split one share. Any judge is going to be able to see the damage done to the others by the quitters.

I'm a humanitarian idealist. Somewhere along the line, maybe we should just prioritize the student athletes instead of exploiting them. All things considered 'education' is still the most important tool in life.

Yeah, that line of thinking went bye-bye about 4 weeks ago. Thanks to NIL, and now that they are getting their "fair share"......exploiting is no longer stigmatized and in fact encouraged. Being a "student" athlete and getting an education is just so 2020.
