Since 1919 we have had 21 head coaches (some interim). Only one (Earle Bruce) has a winning record here.
Yup and K-State was **** until the Vampire showed up.

Just for reference, I looked up the records of several coaches who took over similarly bad programs and had some success to see where they were in year 6. These may not all be directly comparable to our program, but a couple of them are about as close as you can get.
Jim Grobe (Wake Forest): 11-3 ACC Champs
David Cutcliffe (Duke): 10-4 ACC Coastal Division Champs
Art Briles (Baylor): 11-2 Big 12 Champs
Bill Snyder (Kansas State): 9-3
Steve Spurrier (South Carolina): 9-5 SEC East Champs
Mark Mangino (Kansas): 12-1 Big 12 North Co-Champs
A couple of those guys are legends, a couple ended up failing to build on their success and got fired. But I guess my point is that it is possible to have real success at a place that is traditionally awful. And it isn't out of line to think it should happen by year 6.
You might very well get showered with excuses on why it is much easier to be successful at those schools then at ISU.
After last season, I posted a somewhat similar analysis on the success of coaches who don't have a break-out season within the first four years in the major conferences. It's not good. Cutcliffe is one of the 4 or 5 that managed to do it. The vast majority who don't break out by year 4 never do at that school.
Exactly. Would, at this point, gladly take McCarney back.
Thank god CPR had so many of Mac's recruits starting for him in year 1 and also in year 2 (you know, CPR's best teams)!NO. That is the problem. The naysayers are pining for the days of Dan McCarney. HOW MANY Ranked teams did Dan McCarney beat while at Iowa State? HOW MANY Road Conference Games did Dan McCarney win at Iowa State? How Many Ranked Conference Teams did Dan McCarney beat while at Iowa State?

When Mac was here some folks wanted Walden back on the sidelines.
Must be the nature of the beast, however I'm glad North Texas isn't on the schedule this season
Could you imagine if North Texas was coming to Ames this week and Danny Mac put a hurtin' on us? Wow... now that would put some salt in the wound, wouldn't it? I think I'd laugh probably. Kind of like I did after last Saturday's game. Sometimes things look so bad you have no other choice but to laugh.
Yeah, I've noticed a "trend" - CPR has lost to two 1-AA teams in a row. Mac never lost to one...Have you noticed a trend??? DMAC's success was mostly due to easy schedules with only a couple ranked teams on the schedule. Rhoads had one such easy schedule his first year......and won 7 games.

Why are we rebuilding in years 5 and 6? Those should be the years a program is reaching new heights. Instead we are right back where we started before Rhoads was hired.

For those who think Rhoads is going to get things turned around and get us back to a bowl game next year - how do you see things playing out over the next 23 games? What is the basis for your belief that Rhoads will be able to fix the program?
That is pretty pathetic to want the Cyclones to lose. WHY?
