I don't know. I like Scheelhase on paper but I have too many questions right now... primarily, it strikes me as odd to fire Manning only to promote from within. I mean, I think there were a number of flaws with the offense and I would have liked to have seen some outside people come in and perhaps look more critically. I don't doubt CMC but at the end of the day, sometimes that "fresh" set of eyes and a fresh perspective really can see things that we ourselves are blind to, both in life and in sports. Also while Scheelhase is a very highly thought of young promising coach - this is a lot to thrust on him and think he's going to fix or help fix one of statistically the worst offenses in the nation without ever having done this before. Those are my concerns.
Does it make me right? Heck no. This could be a 15/10 hire and I hope that it is. Because that is what would be best for Iowa State and that's what we all want.
But I don't know if I'm popping champagne bottles. Had we raided a top non-power 5 school I'd grade it higher but if I were handed out letter grades I'd call it a solid B? Maybe B-? IDK. Its hard to grade and judge when there isn't much or any real evidence of what he's like as a play caller.
I hope he has some new ideas because while execution certainly has to improve along with play calling, I also think that this season showed we needed new ideas on offense and I just don't know how this stacks up but I will certainly be hoping for much success
Morever... why did we stick with Gordon as quarterbacks coach?
