SEC Myth - Iowa Nice Guy

The problem for me with the SEC national championship arguments is that they get a team in the championship every year where many teams get over looked at their chance to win it. Their percentage of winning a national championship is already much higher. Take the B12 last year who didn't have a team in it to make an argument about conference strength.
It's a horrible arguing point imo.

Did some stat checking... In the last 15 years the SEC has the best win percentage against other Power 5 schools, best bowl record, and by far the most NFL draft picks. How is it a "myth" the SEC is superior?

Easier to have more players drafted when you have more teams. Do you really think bowl games are arranged for the most evenly matched teams? How many of those Power 5 wins were against less than average teams? How many of those wins looked less than average?

For instance, a 3-9 West Virginia team going into 2014 took Alabama, the unanimous preseason pick to be the SEC champion, to the wire. Not really sure where Alabama looked like the superior team..

Not to mention, almost all of those factors you raise are being pulled by the SEC West. What about the less than stellar teams from the East? Are they also superior to everyone else?

Didn't watch. Anyone with Iowa's schedule has no business talking about anything relating to strength of conference.

Oh and Siepker must be applying for a grant at the u of I or something because his over the top comments that he cheers for Iowa are ODD.

Guarantee there is some background to this emphasis.

SEC is overrated but stick with a good conference to make that point.

I know he is currently raising money for a Jack Trice and Nile Kinnick documentary or something along those lines. He helped advertise our yearly Rivalry Bike Ride in Carroll, and I think we donated some money towards it.

I don't care to look at 15 years of matchups in attempt to draw a different conclusion, feel free to do so but I'll stick with the overall numbers. I'm a born and raised Big 12 fan so I could care less about the SEC, just my opinion.

well this year for instance here are the power 5 school matchups involving the SEC:

7-1 Alabama beat 7-2 Wisconsin

4-4 Arkansas lost to 5-4 Texas Tech

4-4 Auburn beat 4-4 Louisville

Florida vs FSU TBD

Georgia vs Gtech TBD

Kentucky vs Louisville TBD

8-0 LSU beat 3-5 Syracuse

3-5 USC beat 7-1 UNC, also has Clemson coming up

4-4 tenn lost to 7-1 OU

6-2 A&M beat 4-4 ASU

so if you're scoring at home, the SEC is 5-2 with four games remaining.

Also note that among 56 OOC games, the SEC played 11 power five teams almost all either at home or a "neutral" site.

Unless there's a financial incentive.
I've bet over $100 on Iowa and still rooted against them. I don't know the dollar amount where that swings and I don't bet enough to ever find out.

Sure. But Scott has been paid by Iowa and ISU at different times. And he's an adjunct professor at Drake. He'd like to keep all this going. Claiming he's Hawk only or Clone only isn't the best business strategy for him.

Well if they somehow managed to play Kentucky and Vanderbilt every week they would probably stay undefeated...otherwise not so much.

I guess I didn't take the SEC Myth thing too seriously. When the kid brings up all the national championships and Siepker shushes them and says, "kids, dad is trying to make a point." That kinda tells you everything about the sincerity of the argument. This was meant to poke fun at the SEC, not to be used in court as definitive proof the SEC is overrated. It had a couple good lines, took some shots at the SEC and went viral. I'd say that's mission accomplished.

agreed, also thought him asking for the sour grapes would have been a giveaway, but I guess not.

Really surprised by all of the vitriol directed toward the Iowa Nice Guy brand on here. Looks like Fran Fraschilla is the only bulletproof media personality on this board.
