What scares me is if Paul Rhoads can't win at ISU, who can? Surely anyone else who has any ounce of success will leave as soon as they can for a better job.

Weird to think after the 2011 season, people here were worried Rhoads would get plucked to a larger program. Things change with the wind in college football.

He turned down Wisconsin twice. Bet he would like a do over on that.

Why? Hoiberg wanted the basketball job, has a passion to succeed here, and but didn't have coaching experience. Rhoads wanted the football job, has a passion to succeed here, didn't have head coaching experience. One guy has been able to succeed. One guy has been able to stay afloat before finally going under.....

Fred took guys that had problems to the point they were kicked off other teams. Would CPR ever go the transfer route with problem children from other programs?

He's done that to some extent by bringing Coe and Taylor.

On top of that, the transfer epidemic is not near as big in college football. Seems like there'd by a smaller percentage of players to go after.

Funny thing is, we still have 3 games left! Not saying this is likely, but what if we would win the last 3? We end up 5-7 with a win over a rated TCU team, really close losses to Texas and K-State, plus games we "easily could have won", with NDSU and Kansas.

Now, again, that is not likely to happen but what do you think the tone around here would be then? That's why I think you let the season play out before totally burying they guy.

Oh...I'm pretty sure the season is over

This is why the last 3 games are so critical for the future of ISU FB, no matter who the future coach is. Defensive players are what ISU desperately needs, especially DL and LBers. Looking like there is hope is really the only way to stop the bleeding. 3 blowout losses and the team will loss recruits and a lot of the remaining fans.

Love the "If Rhoads cannot succeed here, nobody can." Why do people keep saying this. It's as if they think he is a proven head coach with tons of years of head coaching experience. I honestly think some of you determine what a good coach is based on how passionate and proud they are.

Exactly what I was trying to say earlier. Why is Rhoads the make or break coach for ISU football? Just because he turned down other jobs to stay here?

If Nick Saban was our HC, Chip Kelly our OC, and Pat Narduzzi our DC, and we still went 2-10, 3-9 after 6 years, then I would be worried that it could never happen in Ames, Iowa.

Who. the. hell. cares? If a coach has success at ISU, but bolts somewhere, that's way better than an unsuccessful coach who has to get fired. At least in the first circumstance, we had a good year or two. And that's more than we have EVER had.

Agree! Paul Rhoads did not have the resume to have this job to begin with. He was out of work, he was cheap, and he was local.

For a basketball thread that'd be a great start. I'd also add Tim Floyd, Larry Eustachy and Johnny Orr too!

Only takes 1. Ask Hayden Fry, Bill Snyder, Jerry Kill. And if the guy is successful and leaves, still a more desirable job than where we are today. Also no other coach in our HISTORY has had the tools and facilities at their disposal like they do today.

Hahahaahhaha that's hilarious. Just because he slaughtered your hawks doesn't mean he's a great coach.
