thats probably true. but they had wide open shots. and accumulating about 10-12 points off the post's outside counts for something. He's pointing out that their big men aren't three-point shooters on the season, so we left them open. That wasn't the deciding factor.

No different than teams leaving DG open...we want them shooting those because they're low percentage shots.the thing that made me furious, is that we didnt guard the fricken posts for duke outside the free throw line. that was just unacceptable. and the fact we didnt guard scheyer tighter also.
Nobody has taught them how to box out on a rebound, anyone know how many offensive rebounds Duke had last night?
I'm curious how you know that nobody has taught them? Just because they aren't doing it doesn't mean they weren't taught it.
im not just talking about 3 pointers though, im including the shots in between 3 pointers and free throws too.Bawbie was pointing to them being 1-2. I haven't looked it up, but I don't remember the posts scoring a whole lot outside. That wasn't an unsound strategy, definitely not the dealbreaker.
The post right above yours quoted Eric Heft stating that these guys don't get how hard they have to play all the time. That's true. That transition is a really difficult one for this team, but they need to get there.

yupThere really wasn't that many of them. If there were, the score probably would've been much closer. I would've loved for those to be the shots Duke was taking on a regular basis, because they would've probably shot at a 30% clip instead of a 60% clip.
McD is that you?You could pull up almost any post-game thread from the past few years, and they would all sound the same. This team has suffered from the same problems and mistakes since McD took over.
your ********.

i never said it was a deciding factor:wink:. and they may not have knocked them all down, but if you leave someone open its not good. and im not saying we should always guard it, but at least try to defend it sometimes. You're out of line, Man. Bawbie, CycloneErik and others are right. Leaving the posts open to shoot outside the lane is NOT the reason we lost the game, or a dumb move. Someone else mentioned...it's the same thing as other teams "encouraging" DG to take those shots, while we Cyclone fans sit there and gasp when he throws one up.
They are not high percentage shots. I would rather them shoot those than throw down alley oops, or drop step for chippies and thunderous dunks.
Dukes bigs knocked a few (very few) of these down, last night. That's going to happen, but it's better than the alternative.

The real problem with this team, is it's coach.
The same problem it's had for four years now.
This is a coach that had Brackins and Wesley Johnson on the same team, and coached them to a losing season.
Let's face it.
This year's team is the most talented that Mcdermott will ever have here.
And we still can't compete against good teams.
Long past time for him to go.

Lot's of coaches win with Freshmen.Freshman Brackins wasn't a world-beater..... and Wesley was on one leg at best. Nobody wins with that lineup. Nice try there.
This team, like most of GMac's teams do not know how to rebound. They don't box out, they have not learned the simple rule of getting yourself between the basket and the player you are guarding as soon as a shot goes up, to be facing the basket when a shot goes up, and to use your butt and arms to box out.
Duke had 18 offensive rebounds last night.......ISU had only 19 defensive rebounds. That means that like 50 per cent of the time that Duke missed a shot, they were going to get a second chance. Totally un-acceptable! It has been a problem for 4 years with ISU, and yet it does not improve.
Brackins only had 2 rebounds last night! And, the 2nd top re-bounder last night, Hamilton, only played 23 minutes. This is the type of thing that makes me nuts with GMac sometimes. He never seems to go with the hot hand. Hamilton was scoring last night, rebounding, and yet he only played 23 minutes.
ISU should have pounded the ball inside all night last night, from the very beginning. It worked when they did it. ISU actually had more points in the paint last night than Duke did.
Re-bounding, free-throw shooting, and shot selection are the biggest problems this team has, and none have improved from the start of the year.
