Because no provider would pick it up if there were several football games on it annually. Worked for the Big 10.

You can't seriously be comparing the LHN to the Big 10 network, can you?

C'mon people, Texas isn't going anywhere. I think it's funny how everyone assumes they know exactly where UT admins stand on conference realignment and what they are telling the rest of the conference members behind closed doors. Unless you've been in the room during those discussions, you likely don't know jack about what's really going on.

The way I see it, people can either worry themselves sick about ISU's fate and what Texas is doing to try to secede from the union again, OR they can put some faith in the visionary leaders we have at ISU and trust them to lead us to the best outcome.

The latest from the WVU board. Interesting stuff...

A few weeks ago there were reports that the expansion of the Big 12 could possibly be delayed until 2014, ends up that could be true. Notre Dame has tendered deals with both the ACC and Big 12, as I stated earlier. The Big 12 has stood firm that it would not make moves until the BCS playoff format was finalized. Even though it has not been officially voted on by the Presidential Oversight Committee they have given assurances that it will be accepted.

The playoff format essentially allows Notre Dame to keep its independence in football. ESPN has recently stated that it would renegotiate the media contract with the ACC if Notre Dame joined. Until this revelation the Big 12, especially Texas, felt the additions of Clemson, FSU, and Notre Dame were “done dealsâ€. In a final power play the ACC again extended a modified offer to Notre Dame which would essentially make them the richest collegiate athletic program in the country. Clemson has informed the ACC that the addition of Notre Dame would ensure their continued allegiance to the ACC. FSU, no matter the circumstances, are willing to leave for the Big 12. However, IF Notre Dame joins the ACC the Big 12 is not in a position to expand with only FSU. Therefore, if Notre Dame joins the ACC then FSU to the Big 12 will not happen until at least 2014 as time is running short and although other schools have been contacted the talks are very preliminary. The Big 12 did not expect the ACC to make a play for Notre Dame, especially one of this magnitude.

This weekend the Big 12 will hold a teleconference to take “official†votes on Clemson, FSU, and Notre Dame. Invitations may very well be extended by the end of the weekend. Once official vote is taken all three schools will be notified and encouraged to notify their respective conferences of their intent to “explore other optionsâ€. IF there is information “leaked†to this effect this weekend it means the Big 12 has voted to invite all three into the Big 12 starting the 2013 season. IF there is no information “leaked†this weekend the possibility of Big 12 expansion for 2013 will have taken a severe drawback. The Big 12 could potentially lose Notre Dame to the ACC which in turn would cause Clemson to back away as well.

The fact that Texas has stated it would accept Clemson ONLY if Notre Dame was extended an offer is now inconsequential. If Notre Dame joins the ACC Clemson will stay put leaving FSU alone. Louisville will retake its position at the top of the list of potential Big 12 candidates. It is not clear whether or not UL would receive the necessary votes to be extended an “invite†though. As of last vote the conference was still split.

how is the ACC going to make ND the richest school? Their contract is weak at best and the rest of the schools would take a paycut to get ND???

Just doesn't make a lot of sense.

I think that question is what has most people baffled. The ACC is already behind in the $ war with their new contract. How does one squeeze the blood from that stone?

I wonder if the ACC can renegotiate their tv contract if ND joins

Maybe when they renegotiate, the current teams keep about the same, just ND gets more? ND becomes their Texas? And they become when the Big12 was... hoping to go through rough patches then suddenly become arguably the best? Real long shot, but they are trying lol.

OK so where do we stand currently financially, and where would we stand with the additions of FSU and Louisville? I know Louisville isn't the sexy option, but the potential is there that maybe a big conference can unlock. Or maybe the Big12 would just like another bottom feeder school since ISU and Baylor have decided to get pretty good and teams need another win on the schedule.

Maybe this could be between ESPN and NBC? ESPN will pay the ACC to get ND away from NBC. Since ACC has offered whole membership vs Big 12 partial, ESPN has swung big cashola the way of ACC to lock up ND and then hurt NBC. Maybe NBC needs to get some dollars in the game to swing ND back toward Big 12 as partial and keep ND as their own.

If clemson wasn't ready to go but FSU was i'd still say grab FSU and go to 11. They'd add to the conference, and the big 10 did just fine for nearly 20 years with 11 teams and no divisions... we might be even better off with the 9 game schedule, we'd only miss 1 team a year.

I am sure that the Big12 would offer a full membership if ND wanted it.

NBC Sports Network has resorted to showing Ivy League games this fall. That's not even FBS level. Steal ND from NBC and we might get a reconstituted Gateway Conference game of the weak on the Peacock Network

Providing ND wants to join Big 12 as full member. Who knows what ND could be saying behind the scenes or ESPN is thinking in regards to programming.

Surprising in some ways that ABC/ESPN has now TWO efforts to steal ND from NBC in 2015. Seems the BCS decision to go top four teams by select committee may have changed their strategy just to rip ND from NBC.

I know we want ND first. But I say lets just add FSU and get to 11. Pretty much the same situation when the B1G added Penn State. Then see what ND wants to do, if they only want to be a partial member allow Clemson to join. If ND wants to be full, tell Clemson thanks but no thanks. If we go to Super Conferences, add Clemson and whoever else. If ND goes ACC, or doesn't come here partial... we just add FSU and maybe Louisville if we don't have a better option and would rather be at 12 than 11.

and so it begins. ND will do anything and everything to their advantage....if they are allowed......and apparently they will be. If they are allowed to piggyback into the new Champions Bowl, that is just wrong and foolish on our part. There is ALOT of disinformation out there now, but one thing remains constant....ND looking after ND interests at others expense. Count me in the join fully or no thanks crowd.

I'm pretty sure there's a rule that you have to be in the conference to play in the conferences Bowl game unless its a lower bowl and the conference doesn't have enough eligible teams... But hey it could end up being a smart play by the Big12. ND isn't ever going to be good enough to play in that game anyways. ND still thinks they are high and mighty and if we inflate their heads even more with this chance at the Champions Bowl and we get more money out of it, why the hell not.
