***Video Board Renderings Released***

I'm sure that the board will sway slightly and be able to handle it, but if it was attached to the Jacobson it wouldn't be allowed to sway the way it's supposed to and might have major problems. Also it might have to do with the sound also. If the speakers were too close to the metal roof of the Jacobson the sound might bounce off of it and make a crappy sound. I'm sure they put a lot of work into making it sturdy and having great sound as they are professionals.

Well, it wouldn't have to actually be attached, but closer. My thought was that the height may have to do with damage on extra points/field goals, because there have definitely been balls kicked on top of the Jacobsen, so maybe that was the factor.

Either way, this thing is going to be sick and I can't wait for football!
 
Everyone has to remember, the major concern was the sound system. I, was well as a lot of other people, were not even expecting to get a new video board from this. This will be an amazing improvement to what we already have and on top of it, we are keeping the old board! 2 screens and a custom sound system! That is awesome by my books.

my only concern would be what happens when as have some strong wind gusts... hopefully that thing will be really sturdy
 
As someone who has recently had seats in the South endzone, I would be embarrassed to stand up from my desk right now after looking at those renderings. :yes:

4X the size of what we had and HD? How can anyone complain?!?

Looks great! And I'm surprised at all the people complaining about it. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If this many people ***** about the scoreboard, I can't wait to see how many people ***** about the new endzone. I guarantee after you see this thing in person, you won't care how skinny or thin it is.

Because it's not flush with the end of Jacobson, the extra height should allow people sitting in the bottom corners to see the board.

Let's be real, I don't think anyone is really complaining. Just offering opinions on aesthetics. I'm pretty sure everyone is grateful for this and it's obviously going to be freaking sick when we all see it for the first time on game day.

Should we never have questions or opinions and just blindly follow whatever is put in front of us?

I would guess they already took that into account. This new board is going to weigh 67,050 pounds. That in and of itself is going to require some serious strength in the structure holding it up, especially when you consider how far it is from side to side. The supports on the sides are going to be huge.

I believe it stated in the release that the footings were going to be 8 feet wide and 14 feet deep.

The 65' piers I'm guessing will be concrete with rebar cages and those piers will have reinforcement tied into the footings. Not sure of the exact design intent of the piers without looking at the structural prints.

For the foreseeable future. In other words until the south end zone is constructed. I bet they are thinking that they don't have to pay for it's removal that way and they can make extra money off that advertising too.

Also, you have to keep in mind that they are probably designing it so if they make a move to replace the Jake that they won't have to do anything to the new video board.
