According to the kenpom dump above, they score 26% of their points from 3 - good for 300th nationally. We score a whopping 26.4% of our points from 3 - good for 292nd nationally.

The real deciding point in the game is that we force teams to score from outside - we are one of the top 10 teams in the country in limiting points near the basket (43% of opponent points from 2s) - where they score 56% of their points in 2s.
Will they be able to go against their nature and make a ton of 3s? Or will they try to score in the paint against us (which never goes well)?

I really like this matchup. I didn't want to play Drake for a lot of reasons - mainly team mental-state - but also because Drake is a better 3pt shooting team AND they (at least hypothetically) have DeVries who can take over a game. Although he was HORRIBLE at the end of that game yesterday.

I’m thinking we would have eaten DeVries for lunch. Is a good player? Absolutely, but he would have been the focal point of defense

Woof, the OP of that post is about the only active member there.

He started another thread hyping up other PAC teams playing well in the tournament and he was talking to himself for the first 4 posts.

As an aside, if I were in WSU's shoes there's no way in hell I'm rooting for the likes of Oregon and Zona. Strange behavior.

IMO, WSU is by far the better matchup for ISU. they have more high major bodies, but they are far less skilled than Drake. We should be able to turn them over a lot.

They are a pretty good team at preventing turnovers - but the don't force any either. Their season high for turnovers was 13 ... until they had 18 in an absolutely horrible game against Colorado in the Pac12 tourney (they lost 58-52). But they haven't played anyone with a defense anything like ours.

in fact, they failed to reach 70 points in all of their losses except 2 - an OT loss @ Cal and a 84-89 track meet against Oregon.

One other thing on 3-pt shooting - they haven't given up more than 7 made 3s in a game since mid-January. They are really good at limiting the 3 attempts by the other team.

Was watching the game with my daughter (in her low 20's - just graduated from ISU). She is a very casual BB fan but gets more locked in during tournament (brackets, you know). Started watching WSU-Drake after our game and she made the comment "why do these teams look so much worse than we do". The eye test at work...

Brodie is a load, but Drake was in trouble whenever he was out. They had no one else that could hold up inside.
Wazzu is similar with Isaac Jones - They have a couple 6'11" guys that take up space in there in Chinyelu and Cluff, but they don't provide much other than 10 fouls and some rebounding.

Jones hasn't been especially foul-prone, but getting a couple early ones against him would change the dynamic of the game.

Everyone keeps talking about this “Jones” on WSU but I watched the whole game last night and no one stood out on that team to me. Like an amorphous blob of guys running around a lot, kind of being uncoordinated and then throwing up junk hoping to get a bounce. Seemed like the score of that game was in the 50’s for the last 13 minutes.

Brodie was the key to everything last night. I bet Drake wins that game if he didn't foul out.
Their back up is ok, just not the same physical presence.

They could be really solid next year if they can find a replacement for Bodie. Basically everyone else back plus they have a former 4 star ,Chico Johnson redshirting due to a knee injury in HS.

ISU not shutting down Mayo might have been the worst thing for Devries had that matchup happened.
