Fire away...ok...

-We as fans all want more. Always have and always will. 11-1 we would want to be 12-0.

Not True. Every Cyclone fan right now, today, would be elated if we finished the season 11-1. So wrong on the first point.

-Our team and staff have gone to bowl games in 3 of the last 4 years?

Which is kind of great, but, we should have beaten our last 2 opponents, and were clearly outplayed. Even after "improving" as we went along, we laid an egg the last game of those seasons. My dad has bought us "boys" bowl game T-shirts, and guess how many times I've worn the last 2....yep, once. We played so lousy those games, I could hardly watch the game. I personally don't get too excited about any 6 win team making a bowl, even the Cyclones. But to lose those games, is even worse, especially when they are teams we should have beat. I can always deal with playing well and losing. I can't deal with playing lousy. The fact that we laid those eggs, at some point, has to say something about your "progress".

-This forum was lit up at the start of the season wondering what "dragon" we were going to slay this year for an upset....... Last time I checked we still have games to play and we have "slayed" with our back ups before. Thank you Tiller and J.B. for your hard work.

At this point, possible, but doubtful. But I'll give you a pass on this one even though the only "dragon" we would have left is Oklahoma. The rest of our games, I wouldn't really call that big of upsets.

-I heard jokes how Chuck Norris wears Paul Rhoads underwear

That one is awesome. Finally something I agree with.

-I read "Quick extend Rhoads contract before he leaves!!!"

From what I've read, most people still believe in Paul. But he will need to make some staff changes, or he'll go down like Danny Mac. If Mac would have made a few changes, Like letting go of Skladany, he may still be here, and I doubt he would have had any 1-11 or 2-10 seasons during those years. This off-season will be big for CPR to see if he really is the leader and can make the tough decisions.

-I've had conversations of "We finally got a guy who wants to stay in Ames."

Yes, for a while. If he does succeed (and succeeding in Ames is 5-9 wins a season for 5+ years in a row) at some point someone else will come knocking. That's the nature of the beast.

Fast Forward 2 months -> We want to fire every single person?

Not everyone, but changes have to be made. Yes injuries hurt, but why have we not been developing players for the last 4 years? No way our backups should be this bad. I personally would have been fine with a 4-6 win season this year. But to play the way we've played (minus Texas) is inexcusable. If most of us in the working world started a new job, improved each year for 4 years, and then had our worst year ever in year 5, do you honestly think you wouldn't get scrutinized. Or deserved to be fired? Paul obviously holds his players accountable, but he needs to do the same with his Assistants. Are you telling me he felt fine with player development the last few years? I certainly hope not.

As far as I can see we have a lot of good things going for us and I feel bad for those who can not see it or are to angry to look for it. Unfortunately progress doesn't always carry over into the Win and Loss column and you can not prevent injuries, transfers, or the foolish mistakes of young men.

Spoken like a "true" Iowa State fan. Our motto is "there is always next year". I'm tired of attitudes like this. Accepting mediocrity leads to being mediocre. Is that truly what you want out of our Cyclones? Progress ALWAYS takes the form of wins and losses. Is one season excusable? Maybe. So as a true fan, I guess you are ok if we only win 1 game this year, and 2 games next year and 3 the next? I promise you, you would be in the vast majority if that's how you evaluate success.

So I'll end with this if you want to complain about the team. We dont want you and we dont need you.

I bet you are happy with the "everyone gets a ribbon" mentality also. I succeed at my job because I'm better than the next guy...End of story. What's wrong with wanting the same from my beloved University? If you support the University, you have the right to complain. Many people have a lot of emotion tied into this. Passionate fans want success. Do I think most Cyclone fans will be back next year, yes. So give them a break if they want to vent a little. Over the course of time, if anyone has a reason to vent, it's Cyclone fans. I'll take any fan that complains and then shows up the next season to support all over again.

Ending....I'm not on the fire CPR bandwagon. I think we need him. But at this point, I'd say if he can't get us to 6-7 wins within the next 2 years, especially since we have all of this young "talent" as you call it, then his string is pretty short at that time. He has 2 more years of only winning 2-3 games, and he's gone. He's obviously a great motivator, but to succeed at ISU, you have to develop talent over a 3-4 year period. As much as I hate to admit it, that's why Ferentz has the success he does. It's at that point you can have 5-8 wins per year, which I'm fine with. And sometimes the stars align and we win 9 or more, and sometimes we fight injuries and we win 4. But today, from what I've seen from every game except Tulsa and Texas, the Cyclones have easily been the worse of the 2 teams on the field. Complaining or not, that is just not acceptable after 4 years on the job.

I honestly get more upset with these types of posts than the football games themselves.

If this isn't a narrative fallacy I don't know what is.

When you make blanket statements like this, "we don't need you", to anyone who is critical, you have created a super simplified and incorrect narrative both that all criticism is bad, and that the Big 12 school with some of the least resources doesn't need fans.

For a science and technology school we seem to have a ton of people who are unbelievably technical and analytical in their jobs/studies, yet I come on this message board and I see this type of logical fallacies to fit a simple narrative all the time.

If someone gives detailed reasoning for why they feel a coach, or position should be upgraded, they are not a hater, they are not ungrateful, they are simply working to improve. These are the types of people who are successful in business. Many of the companies who aren't are places where critical thinking is castrated, and feedback is non-existent. The group hive mind sets in, and nothing improves. That is until their competitors do improve and they are left in the dust.

I agree, most posts recently have bothered me more than the game itself and is the reason for my first post. I apologize as I do not mean to pick on all of the critical, just the extreme haters filled with way to much negativity. Frankly, I feel bad for those who are being that way. I'm fine with (not that it matters) people being critical and to use critical thinking but saying fire every single coach is being neither. I have been guilty of doing both before in the past but I know that this approach is not critical thinking and is not progressive. Those are the people that I would say I "dont want and dont need" on any team regardless if its for work or play. Those people are often a cancer if you ask me and they spread like wild fire.

I would agree we need changes but I think that still holds true after a successful season. Change is always made with progression in mind. But before ranting too much remember Mess isnt throwing balls in the dirt or dropping/fumbling balls. The players aren't calling the wrong plays nor do they want to make mistakes. The defense doesnt want to be on the field as much as they are or give up any points. And the back up QB is not always the greatest things since sliced bread.

Many look to CF for news that is maybe positive and/or at the least informative not the insecure sarcasm in 95% of posts. It just seems that people clogging every single football forum with rants about fire anything that moves. No one is making you stay a fan or making you go to the game. Remember its the support that is appreciated. I'm just hoping that I or others dont reach a point where the dont want or need to frequent this website/forum for because of it.

This team has won one game, and lost bad to UNI. We can be upset. We can want changes. This oh well lets wait till next year **** gets old. I have been waiting for next year for the last 12 years and really it hasn't got a lot better. 2 things that are really getting on my nerves. One is all the ******* excuses, from fans to the staff. Just say it admit it this team isn't very good. When things are not good changes have to be made. 2nd is fans telling me I have to be ok with a team that sucks. I hate to lose, I hate to wait, I hate getting my *** kicked.

If you are happy with an offense that is ranked in the bottom 90 of every category, what is wrong with you. If you are ok with the staff doing the same old thing week after week, thinking for some reason it will all of a sudden work, what is wrong with you. All these coaches get paid a lot of money to do their jobs, they need to get the job done or be ready to look for a new job. I have 85% faith in CPR, but there are coaches on this staff that should in no way be back next year, if they are back, my faith in CPR getting the job done at ISU really will fall.

If you continue to willingly consume a product for 12 years that has let you down this many times and caused you this much misery, I think the source of your anger is not coming from said product.

I dont want to wait til next year. F that. We still have games left to play. Its not an excuse but life isnt filled with rainbows and unicorns.

I'm not ok with the everyone gets a ribbon BS but then again its because just like you I have succeeded by being better than the next guy from hard work and its how I have been raised. 2nd is the first loser has been drilled in my head. I'd also be lying if I told you I haven't had a little trial/error or failed miserably at times but bet your *** it didnt happen again.

I'm just happy we dont work together as your ribbon would be red with a #2 and mine would be blue with the #1 on it. People even may want you fired. wink wink. but seriously you would lose as long as it didnt include spelling or grammar. wink wink. but seriously :)

Venting is Venting... its not saying OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

First of all, we should never settle. Every fanbase should always want better. That is exactly how you get better!

Secondly, the Halloween Extravaganza ad for Fredericksburg of Hollywood is fantastic! I really don't care about any of the forum topics anymore or whether or not you jug heads have anything important to say. Just write something... Anything.

So you're telling him to be a fair weather fan? If his favorite team sucks he should just stop caring just because he gets frustrated?

I guess this is a true sign the wheels are coming off when a fan base starts to cannibalize itself.

If this were truly the case, then we haven't had any wheels since about month 4 after this site appeared.

Until we started selling 50,000+ tickets a game, we were constantly told how the losses were the fans fault.

Hell, the occasional thread still shows up telling us how disappointed they are in the fans and our inability to cheer loudly for another 3 and out.
