Should I interpret the lack of discussion (has lessened quite a bit) as a sign that everyone is busy preparing for the "big" storm or that it might be fizzling out?

About an hour ago, The DSM office of the NWS reissued their statements from late this morning. Next full package of updates (forecast discussions, updated forecasted and if necessary updates to current advisories that are in effect) should come within the hour.

Just fired up the snowblower did a couple sweeps down the driveway, wife had already shoveled it, to make sure it was ready. Plenty of food and liquor on hand also. I hope we don't get much though.

Looking at the maps on the weather channel on Yahoo, it appears as if much of the current storm lies north and is already east of Iowa; it is traveling in a SW to NE direction, and there does not appear to be much more in Kansas that will affect us. But I do not know how far to trust these maps. Will the second phase, expected, I gather, on Tuesday be coming from a different direction? I thought we were to get some moisture out of Texas, but the current storm seems to have its sources in NM and AZ.

You'll see it come from the deep southwest before moving upstream gathering moisture from the gulf is my guess. It won't start showing up on radar til I'm guessing tomorrow am?

Sorry, just had to get that out of my system. University of Tulsa, where I'm doing grad school, cancelled classes for tomorrow about 2 hours ago. Might be due to 1-4 inches of Ice we're supposed to get overnight. As of yet, not a drop of precipitation has hit the ground. And it was 80 two days ago.

Hit the grocery store. I am ready.
I've always been curious as why people run to the grocery store. Is it a normal shopping day for the store or are you afraid you will be stuck in your house for a week? In the last two decades I haven't seen the roads closed down for more than maybe 12 hours, unless you live in the country with limited access.

The weather guy here in Chicago just said his model said 20.5 inches of snow for the city. The model ran a 28 inch number for Kankakee. You have to be kidding me. Having only lived here for a couple years I haven't seen how a huge snow effects street parking. Should be interesting.

Any possibility ISU can pull a snowday? I could use it, I feel like ****.

No.

Don't get me wrong. This is a VERY IMPRESSIVE storm. But Central Iowa is going to be right on the edge. I don't buy the high totals. I'd still say about 4-8" Total (today and tomorrow) snowfall for DSM.

Now towards Columbia, Kirksville, MO; Peoria, Chicago, IL... they are going to get dumped on. 12-24" of snow. Places like Ottumwa and Keokuk will be impressive too!

St. Louis, Indianapolis will see an inch of ice.

We're talking about a infrastructure crippling storm... I just don't see it in central Iowa.

Still disagree, looking how close we are to a phase already and that the southern stream is tilting negative on the SPC analysis maps, I think the western edge of guidance is more likely thus adding maybe 4 inches to your high and low in Des Moines. My map I made last night probably needs totals knocked down a couple inches in each zone though.
