So school is cancelled down here, my car is buried and my ******* ******* upstairs neighbors have their TV turned up so loud I could hear it outside when I was clearing off my car. Time to show them what loud speakers really sound like.

Doesn't look like we've had much snow in Indianola at all. My boy is going to be ******, because he was talking snow day all last night. Bet he gets tomorrow off though.

we weren't supposed to get much of anything over night, the snow is supposed to pick up this afternoon and into tonight, not to mention the winds will get stronger as the day goes along. Could definately see the school districts with buses that go out of town closing early this afternoon.

I get around
Well, that Gulf moisture you need to feed the storm is here. It's pretty intense here in Texas. Just rain where I am but 40mph sustained winds with gusts approaching 60mph. Dallas area is getting winter mix so that area will shut down completely. Stay safe everyone.
It's 67 degrees in the McAllen-Brownsville area as of right now. All the Rio Grande Valley gets out of this is wind (30 mph) and low temps of around 29 degrees each night from tonight to Friday night. No precip. Back to the 60's on Saturday and higher after that. South Texas has had an unseasonably warm winter so far this year. High temps have regularly been around 85 degrees. Keep safe up there you guys!

KU, KSU, and Mizzou have all canceled class today. I'm in Missouri and I generally think they blow out of proportion all of the weather...but they're forecasting where I live to get 29" of snow. If that turns out to be the case this will be worse than any storm I encountered while in Iowa in the 23 years I was there.

Just to put this into perspective, the Kansas City area was issued a blizzard warning. This is only the second blizzard warning ever that's been issued for this area.

if that's the case the other was Jan. 90. I went to school in Maryville and we had wind chills approaching 100 below.

Ok weather gurus. I'm working with 1460 KXNO to make an educated guess on what we should do tonight. Tron Smith and I are scheduled to do a post game show in West Des Moines from 11 to midnight. We have to drive to and from, from Ames.

KXNO is a little bit concerned about sending a board operator in during a blizzard as well.

In your opinion, will we be able to make the trip south safely or is it too big of a risk?

They're talking about how this, when it's done, will be a top 5 all time snow event here in the Quad Cities. We'll need just over 14" to get there, and considering we're on the order of 12-18", that seems likely. We'll need over 18" to break all-time records, so that doesn't seem likely.

The question is, should I just go loud, or should I go loud with a tone generator at about 30Hz? Sorry, if I'm going to be woken up by speakers, it had better be something more impressive than the stock speakers on your circa 1995 TV. I just want to clue them in to the fact that I can be MUCH louder than them.

Back to the original topic, after waking up this morning and clearing off my car, I was much amused to see someone in a truck who didn't know that you need to weigh down the bed for the 4WD to work correctly. Tires spun, truck turned sideways, hilarity ensued.

Exhibit A: Blizzard warning
Exhibit B: Whiteout conditions possible
Exhibit C: Headlights make whiteout conditions worse (if that's possible) from reflection
Exhibit D: Its going to get bitterly cold
Exhibit E: The DOT was already advising people yesterday to not travel.

Applying some common sense, is a radio show worth life and limb?

I am not a weather guru, but my guess is that mother nature will make that decision for you. Unless we get waaay less snow than predicted, there will be white out conditions and major drifting. I wouldn't be shocked if the interstates are closed by then.

You'll break 18 inches imo, probably 20 as well.

It sounds/looks like this system is tracking a little more NW than what was being projected, which would track it right over the Quad Cities.

With the wind, regardless of whether the snow amounts end up higher or lower, I would say it is not a good idea to be driving around at 12:30-1AM tonight. Blowing snow/near whiteout and Wind Chills at -20. That holds true even if there only ends up being 2" or 2' of snow.

We had a snow day back in 1998 when I was at Iowa State. That was one of my more memorable weekends at Iowa State. For some reason my friends and I watched movies starting on Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday. I don't think we left the dorm all weekend. And then on Monday, classes were cancelled and we then proceeded to continue to watch movies all day Monday. By the time Monday night rolled around we were all punch drunk and stir crazy :)

If I remember right that was the weekend we got a whole bunch of snow on Saturday. It was so bad ISU was cancelled Monday and the Ames schools were cancelled Monday and Tuesday even though the snow ended Saturday.
