Brock Purdy is a young man who, over the last 4 years, has given everything he's got to his team and his university, breaking every ISU QB record that exists and taking the Cyclones to unprecedented heights. And on the night he suffers a disappointing end to his amazing career, you decide to anonymously pile on.

In spite of what you think his shortcomings might be, he also has an abundance of character. You could benefit by taking note of that.

Hope that's real enough for you.
Cool. Nobody is attacking his character. Get off your high horse and get over yourself

21. 2-5 (w over UNI)
20. 4-2
19. 2-4 (w over UNI)
18. 2-1 (w over Drake)

10-12 overall if my mobile math is correct. Three of which are considered non-con cupcakes.

So those are the numbers. I don't love that qb's get credits for W's, but since that's one of "his records" it's valid to examine. I think the UNI/Drake are more on staff as a whole than QB1, but point remains.

I am going to write another post regarding Purdy and Campbell being the best ISU has ever had and their strengths and deficiencies are a perfect mixture that produced the highs and the lows of the past four years.
Yes.

I get 3-1 for Purdy in 2018 and 11-12 overall record for him.

He was the QB for one of the greatest eras in Cyclone football history! Wish him the best in the future, and thanks to him for being a Cyclone!

Exactly. Hero ball. Purdy. Resulted in turnover. Makes my point for me.

Could have made a smart safe play and a chance at future plays. Instead tried to be a hero, turned it over, and the game ended.
I have always been a Brock fan, but always, has carried the ball loosely. A fumble waiting to happen.

I love the binary nature of the Purdy discussion. Apparently you either have to be an unabashed supporter or a hater.

I appreciate the kid for all he's done and what he's stood for. He was a big reason behind the most successful run of football we've seen. He's represented the university and program with tremendous class and seems like a great young person.

As a football player I think he was hampered by playing enough that his flaws and tendencies were exploited by other teams/coaches. The book was out to pressure him and get him off his spot. I just have to question the quality of coaching he received because we seemed to see the same mistakes repeated over and over.

I also think he's a player who probably hit his ceiling early on due to his physical limitations. With being on the smaller side and not having a huge arm, he was able to be exploited a little more as his career went on.

In any event, a very good player, a huge part of our success and a great young person. Hope he has great success in his future.
Never understood why his receivers were not able to get open. He was always expected to thread the needle. He was actually very good at it.

Brock Purdy was the best QB in ISU history by a long shot and does not deserve this thread. When you talk about his record in 1 score games consider that throughout most of history ISU would have folded the tent in the 3rd quarter and it wouldn't have been close to a 1 possession game to start with.

If there is any beef I had it would be more of the slow starts rather than the endings.

I know we're well past this, but why are we looking at wins at all as a QB stat? There are some one score losses in that list where we scored over 30 and there are some one score wins where we scored 20.

Are those Purdy's fault?

I think it's an 'in the moment' thing.

Better question is how many game winning or last minute scoring drives did he orchestrate?

Fair. I have:
KSU 2018
Drake 2018
UNI 2019
Baylor 2019
OU 2019
Texas 2019
OU 2020
Texas 2020
Baylor 2021
Tech 2021

All as games he led a drive to score to tie it take the lead I the last 6 minutes of a game (2 with missed 2pt conversions that did not accomplish this but that he led a drive for).

Interesting and I'd wonder what that's like vs. times it didn't work out, or times when it was literally the last possession.

FWIW this isn't me digging in to find more bad things about Purdy; all-time great during an all-time great era of ISU football.

He tended to get a bit sideways at times but it's hard to discern if that was a coaching issue. Imo the offensive approach at times looks like they're trying to do too many things to do them instead of just doing what works very well and maybe that contributed.

Keep in mind, it was because of guys like Purdy that we had a lot of one possession games.

For good or bad? Then there are the games like Iowa.

Not many games in which replacing Purdy with a guy like Kempt does the outcome change.

One score games tend towards 0.500 records. It's rare across the NCAA to be too far from 0.500 over several seasons. The thing is, that 0.500 record isn't generated uniformly - there are streaks in there where one season you do great in one score games and the next you do poorly. Flip a coin 50 times and record each result. The total average will be 50% heads/50% tails, but there will be streaks of 3-5 heads (or tails) hidden in there. That's what happened here; we went 3-1, 2-4, 4-2 and 2-5.

Frankly it's Ferentz football - win the games you should handily, keep it close against the big boys and you'll usually end up with a winning record and occasionally special seasons.

Exactly. In a meat grinder of a nine game conference schedule, the fact we can get into as many one possession games as we have shows how far this program has grown.

Speaking of Brock bloopers, wasn't there one with UNI a couple of years ago where somehow the ball got thrown up and behind Brock and it ended up a pick 6?

Probably the most painful play in his career is the sequence at the end of the Big 12 championship game. With 1:20 left he broke out of the pocket and rolled, he had plenty of green in front of him. He could have probably picked up 8-10 yards and gotten out of bounds to stop the clock. Instead of taking what was there, he heaved the ball down that sideline to a very well covered Allen. A play or two later he threw the pick. OU couldn't stop us in the second half, if Brock can keep that drive alive we are Big 12 champions. Oh well, he was one of the reason we got there, so that is huge.
