What's the next step for ISU?

Meh...that's not happening and we sound like Squawk fans when we say that. Only option would be keeping Iowa and dumping UNI, UNLV, or whatever non P5 school is on the schedule and trying to get a home & home started with another P5.
How much cooler would it be to play a SEC, ACC, or Pac 12 school instead of Iowa. Get some national attention for once.

Not really, 1 time in 108 years doesn't count as annually. And wtf is your hang up with Iowa? They aren't in the B12.

I think being in the top 3 three years in a row counts as competing for it.

They're our rivals. I want to beat them every year in every sport until the end of time. Lots of people on here like to try and belittle Iowa and say they're not important. It's just not true. And y'all do it because they're our rivals.

They only reason beating Iowa is important is to shut them up and just because you do one doesn't mean the other would happen.

Which conference win would you trade for an Iowa win this year?

Yeah, it's funny how Campbell has stood the McCarney era on its head.

Hasn't defeated Iowa (thought he's come dang close twice now), but he's one game away from a Big 12 title. Never thought I'd see that.

Always annoyed me when Iowa fans and national media acted like McCarney got a raw deal. Doesn't little ol' Iowa State know its place? A lot has changed at ISU, but some people will refuse to accept that it's not 1995 or 2000 or 2005 in Ames. We have plenty of money (relative to those times), good facilities, a hungry AD and an insanely passionate fanbase. Now we have a legit head coach. McCarney was great, but Campbell and staff are elite at what they do.

I wouldn't trade any conference wins for an Iowa win. If we won the Big12 every year but that also meant losing to Iowa, I'd choose the Big 12 championship every time.

The question was next steps not stuff we're accomplishing

Not sure how beating Iowa is ISU's next step when we've done that before.

Next Steps
Win Big 12 Championship Game - Planning on that happening this year.
Be in New Years Six Bowl - Planning on that happening this year.
Win New Years Six Bowl - Planning on that happening this year.
Be in the Playoffs. - Planning on that happening next year.
Win a national title. - Planning on that happening next year.

Bonus
Have a Heisman trophy winner. - Planning on Breece Hall winning it next year.

Agreed but why is the next step beating Iowa? It is just beating the other teams, Iowa being one of them if they are on the schedule.

Maybe the right way to put it is making sure we win the games we should win. That would include hoks and the lot.

So beating Iowa is not the next step? Glad we are clear on that finally.

Not exactly sure.
What Campbell has achieved since arriving at ISU is nothing short of miraculous. After watching ISU FB for 40+ years, it finally feels like we have something in place that can be maintained so long as we can keep staff continuity and they don't get complacent with their goals.

My question is, what is the next "hump" that ISU FB and this staff can leap over? Obvious near term answer is winning the "recognized" B12 championship in a couple weeks, but after that, I think it's imperative we get to the point where we can consistently beat P5 schools from the other conferences. To date, Campbell is 0-6 in attempts (WSU, ND, 4 losses to Iowa). Would be great to right that ship this year in our bowl game wherever we land.

Thoughts?
What section you in for the CCG?

Next step is parlaying this success and national attention into a top 25 recruiting class. The catch 22, of course, is that the more success we have, the louder the noise about Campbell leaving, the more difficult it is to convince kids he's not going anywhere.

Anyways, go get a Top 25 recruiting class for 2022.

This is something that’s been on my Campbell checklist for a while. I just don’t understand how Nebraska can do this with crappy results and worse coaches year in year out. Hopefully this year gets recruits to take notice. The success of Lazard and Montgomery should help a bit too.

Next steps on the whole are coming out better prepared in the first 2 games of the season and maintaining top 3rd of the conference with the current position (CCG) being on the table entering November often.

Basically maintaining this level of success or close to it.

Wins wise maybe a victory in a NY6 or similar bowl.

Doesn't have to be Iowa. We just need to beat any P5 team outside the B12 IMO. Will have another chance in our bowl game I would think.
Why would beating “any” Power 5 team be more impressive then beating Oklahoma twice or Texas twice. Oklahoma is an elite program and better than all but 3-4 Power 5 programs. Do you think beating Colorado in the Alamo Bowl is more impressive than beating Oklahoma? It’s not really a next step. But then again you’re just a troll.
