If you buy the assertion that other P5 conferences would want to expand to 16 teams to counter the SEC, ISU would be a compelling add first for the Big 10, then for the Pac 12. I will just add that it almost seems like a divine appointment that historically bad Iowa State football is this good in this place at this time.

I can't stop thinking about this. Imagine if the Campbell hire was a whiff, and the guy we got to replace him was looking like a dud so far, too. If we hadn't been to a bowl since 2012, we would pretty much be toast right now. Instead, we have a fighting chance.

We may have better momentum than them at this time but they are still a bigger brand I would say with more historical success and more money, and it doesn't matter if you think we have more going for us, we are still in a sinking ship.

Exactly, and they’re firmly making 57 million a year or whatever from the Big Ten. It’s not a guarantee Campbell sticks in Ames, and after that there’s uncertainty, albeit things have already been done that people thought couldn’t be at ISU. That’s where the ISU program history is a killer.

Let me expand a bit on your theme… What gives me hope in the current conflagration is embodied in Campbell’s recent statement to the effect of ‘he did not get into coaching to be something great but to do something great’ (rough paraphrase). It’s the worldview behind the 5 star culture that give ISU strength and sets us apart. If Campbell & staff only cared about money, they would have left for greener pastures long ago.
JP seems to have similar foresight. Who knew in 2015 the troubles that would befall us in July 2021? Yet here we are, with disastrous options on the table, but also compelling opportunities for those with character, boldness and savvy to take hold of them. If Campbell amd Pollard are in this to do something great, now is their chance. For all the great things CMC and JP have done for ISU athletics and football, perhaps one day we will look back and say “This was their finest hour!”

There's going to be an ongoing 64 team super league (which ISU would easily be in), the NCAA is dead.

If its a choice of 64 teams outright today with no conference affiliations, then yes easily in.

However, if you assume the four conferences are safe (ACC/SEC/B10/PAC) - and the Big12 is pieced into those four... that 64 team limit becomes too close for comfort.

And people aren't making these decisions with a 20 or 30 year timeframe outlook. That wasn't the case in 2011 and it isn't the case now.

Contact your local Iowa legislators. Let them know they need to form an opinion and weigh in and support ISU and Jamie. ISU falling out of a power 5 type conference WILL have an impact not only on the prestige of the State but will have an impact economically. I sure hope Jamie is recruiting the Governor and the Legislature in on this. IDK, threaten to pull TOE from B10 if we have to….. Don’t overlook that vast majority of these schools are PUBLIC institutions of higher education first and foremost, but we as the citizens and taxpayers of these States should have some say in all of this.

As some others have mentioned this is the first step to 64 team breakout from the NCAA to fit more of the NFL type model that will end up making tons of money. The current power 5 teams have far distanced themselves from any group of 5 teams out there and it is not even close. So there are 65 teams to choose from.

SEC has first choice to get to 16 so they want the top dogs OU & Texas easy choices. Also no team would leave this conference.

B1G then would have their choices of a few schools with ND locked into ACC and ACC teams locked in with their grant of rights it limits for them. Most liking choices of KU, ISU, WV, KSU and maybe OSU. The B1G has some pride and will most liking go with ISU and KU being the AAU schools and KU basketball and ISU growth projection. Also B1G won't want to expand to far out of their region.

ACC is at 15 with ND so they only need one easy choice on location is WV and it gets them back with a lot of old rivals.

PAC12 has last choice of who is left. KSU, TT, OSU are easy. So it falls to BU and TCU as last choice. TCU was the last school to the power 5 party and BU has a little pull with the basketball national title last year. Both fan bases are small and don't care that much and lets face it BU is a trash university.

With the 4 leagues of 16 you can easily go to a 16 team playoff and everyone is making tons of money which is what they want in the first place.

Trying to keep some post-OU/UT Big 12 together by adding schools is a terrible idea in my opinion. The conference will eventually die no matter, and in the interim, we’ve just elevated some new schools into being stronger competitors for the few remaining spots in the other three big conferences. Our best chance for a soft landing is right now. Add Houston, USF, UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis, or Boise and then in five years when the conference finally dies, any advantage we have over them now is significantly reduced or completely gone.

Unfortunately, it’s every school for itself at this point and we should not be thinking about helping future competitors better prepare themselves for the next time one of the remaining big conferences looks toget to 16 schools.

If we can’t get into the Big 10 or PAC 12 now, then we likely never will.

The amount of stuff I don't know fills the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. However, what I do know is there actually aren't that many teams in the country that truly add value to a conference for media rights. ISU definitely isn't one of those teams.

If I am Jamie here is what I am doing, I know now the OU and UT are gone, if this falls through no way in hell they are going to be giving their media rights over to the conference in the future. So we might as hell plan on them leaving.

I have thought for a long time that ISU would thrive in the Big 10 with the added money the conference provides, plus ease of travel to many of the conference schools. This is OPTION 1, 2 and 3 if available.

Good road trips but further out, renew a rivalry with Colorado while keeping the ones with the former Big 12 teams. Good but not great money, and it would take time getting used to 9:00 PM starting times but doable.

Refigure the Big 12 by adding all the want a b's P5 schools Houston, the Florida schools, Cincinnati, Memphis and the rest into a conference and hope that some network or streaming service is willing to pay 20 million per team for the programming. This option basically guts the atheletic department starving it of resources for years to come, but better than joining the MAC or MW.

Good info...pretty much spot on with what I hope Jamie is now mulling over. I, for one, am very interested in his first pressor...that will tell me if he had contingency plans ready to go or if he was as face smacked as the Big 12 office. Kind of sad that KU, with it's illegal Adidas $'s, is better positioned than all the other Big 12 schools. The academic standing of ISU, is going to play a huge role in where we end up.

Someone quoted me earlier saying big 10 needs 70 percent vote to approve. No veto power Even if iowa says no that's still decent odds.
