In the last 5 seconds there were 3 controversial calls and one non-call made, and 3 of them went Creighton's way. They have nothing to complain about.

That might mean something with a jet flying overhead or lightning striking, but "sound travels slower than light" argument is meaningless in an arena like the Well. Not nearly enough of a distance for there to be a distinguishable difference, unless the clock, the clock, backboard light, and horn aren't in sync to begin with...

Not true at all. Just keep an eye on people's hands when there's a chant involving clapping. They're almost always out of synch in the Well.

This is still going on????? Page 5 of a post that happend 2 days ago. You'd think this was a Elite Eight or Final 4 Game. Why do we have to keep beating ourselves up over this. I hope none of you are loosing any sleep at night thinking we 'stole a game and ruined our high-image'. Maybe the refs messed up, I guess we'll never know. More importantly its one of 25+ games, non-confrence.

Even the Register can't let it go. You'd think this was a CU town and those pesky out-of-towners stole one!

Kennesaw can't come soon enough!

Mr. Architect,

I (as in me or myself) am telling you the shot was released in time. The WOI and WHO videos show clearly that the horn sounded after the ball was released.

Below are comments from the people who were directly involved.

“It’s as tough a call as an official will make,†said retired NCAA basketball official Rick Wulkow. “Without replay, you’re forced with going off the sound of the horn because your first responsibility as an official is the shooter ... you can’t watch him and the clock at the same time.â€

Without the benefit of replay, Sunday’s three officials — Steve Olson, John Higgins and Eric Curry — were going off the sound of the horn.

“I was looking at the shot,†said Higgins, who officiated last year’s NCAA Final Four.
He said he did not hear the horn before Vanderbeken launched his only 3-point attempt of the game.

In other news, I heard that the Sun revolves around the Earth.

Imagine the debate that would have taken place in 1990, when Kenny Anderson of GT hit the tying shot against Steve Smith's Michigan State team in the NCAA tournament(GT won in OT). See, in 1990, they didn't review this kind of thing on a monitor, and the internet message board was not yet a reality. Granted, they did get the call right (Foot was on the 3-point line), but the refs had to use their BEST JUDGEMENT in determining if the shot was out of his hands. CBS was so kind to replay the shot in slow motion, and it was determined that the horn did indeed sound before it left his hands.

If there was replay, would the shot have counted? No, it would not have. We were on the right side of a bad call. Why can't we just leave it at that?

Clearly cyclonestate is auditioning to join the ranks of UNIGuy4Cy and Clones21, that's really the only thing that makes sense.

Gotta agree with cyclonestate. Without replay the officials have to go by the sound of the horn, which sounded after JVB released the ball. The correct call was made under the circumstances, case closed.

It was the wrong call, but without replay they only had one chance to make it, not gonna win em all

Okay, Mr. Architect, I'll try to cover this for you one more time......real slowly.

The referees said they had to go by the sound of the horn because they couldn't watch the clock or bankboard light and still see the shot that was taking place 30 feet from the basket. As the WOI and WHO videos clearly show, the horn sounded after the ball was released. All three referees said the shot counted. All three referees made the correct call. It's not that complicated.

If Creighton got robbed, it's not because the referees failed to make the correct call. It's because Wells Fargo Arena does not have their game clock, backboard light, and horn syncronized.

Would the call have been reversed if there were instant replay available? Most likely. But don't say the refs blew it - say the people who manage the arena blew it.

You can go back to your cheap shots now. I'm going to move on to Kennesaw State.

They did blow it though, it was the wrong call. I don't blame them, they did the best they could with the tools they had at the time, but it was the wrong call. Sometime this season we'll have a call go the other way on us, that's life.
