I'm not complaining about it obviously, but I'm wondering why there was no replay monitor around?

That might mean something with a jet flying overhead or lightning striking, but "sound travels slower than light" argument is meaningless in an arena like the Well. Not nearly enough of a distance for there to be a distinguishable difference, unless the clock, the clock, backboard light, and horn aren't in sync to begin with...
The game was not televised, thus no TV monitors to review the play.
I refuse to read through this thread but someone please tell me there's nobody saying the shot was released in time!?
Mr. Architect,
I (as in me or myself) am telling you the shot was released in time. The WOI and WHO videos show clearly that the horn sounded after the ball was released.
Below are comments from the people who were directly involved.
“It’s as tough a call as an official will make,†said retired NCAA basketball official Rick Wulkow. “Without replay, you’re forced with going off the sound of the horn because your first responsibility as an official is the shooter ... you can’t watch him and the clock at the same time.â€
Without the benefit of replay, Sunday’s three officials — Steve Olson, John Higgins and Eric Curry — were going off the sound of the horn.
“I was looking at the shot,†said Higgins, who officiated last year’s NCAA Final Four.
He said he did not hear the horn before Vanderbeken launched his only 3-point attempt of the game.
They didn't have cameras for showing the game on the videoboard?

If there was replay, would the shot have counted? No, it would not have. We were on the right side of a bad call. Why can't we just leave it at that?
Clearly cyclonestate is auditioning to join the ranks of UNIGuy4Cy and Clones21, that's really the only thing that makes sense.
It was the wrong call, but without replay they only had one chance to make it, not gonna win em allGotta agree with cyclonestate. Without replay the officials have to go by the sound of the horn, which sounded after JVB released the ball. The correct call was made under the circumstances, case closed.
Alright, let's dig up and beat a dead horse's skeleton! Maybe we can play tunes on its ribs. The ball that caromed to Franco Harris clearly touched Frenchie Fuqua, too. Son of a *****!!!!!!!

They did blow it though, it was the wrong call. I don't blame them, they did the best they could with the tools they had at the time, but it was the wrong call. Sometime this season we'll have a call go the other way on us, that's life.Okay, Mr. Architect, I'll try to cover this for you one more time......real slowly.
The referees said they had to go by the sound of the horn because they couldn't watch the clock or bankboard light and still see the shot that was taking place 30 feet from the basket. As the WOI and WHO videos clearly show, the horn sounded after the ball was released. All three referees said the shot counted. All three referees made the correct call. It's not that complicated.
If Creighton got robbed, it's not because the referees failed to make the correct call. It's because Wells Fargo Arena does not have their game clock, backboard light, and horn syncronized.
Would the call have been reversed if there were instant replay available? Most likely. But don't say the refs blew it - say the people who manage the arena blew it.
You can go back to your cheap shots now. I'm going to move on to Kennesaw State.
