It makes me sad that this thread is still going, while my JTS janitor one was closed down...
Wow, did JP really make $900K in 2013? I don't get it, that's almost twice what the Iowa A.D. made and a lot more than many other a.d's who run bigger and more successful athletic departments if those figures on the link are correct. JP has done some good things, but he hired and gave ridiculous extensions to two of the worst coaches in ISU history (Chiz and GMac). Auburn and Creighton saved our football and basketball programs from disaster. CPR started out ok but the program is now looking a little shaky, and JP has our hands tied with CPR's contract. There may be excuses but the bottom line is we lost our legend in Cael Sanderson under JP's watch. It didn't take any guts to hire Fred, who else would have taken the job with the mess GMac left, and JP should have hired Fred the first time and saved us the horrible GMac years. If JP really makes $900K a year, he's the most overpaid a.d. in the country.
I'd send more funding to the History Department, just because I can.
Say Rhoads' coaching career at ISU comes to an abrupt end, do u let the AD who hired 2 failure football coaches, ran off the best wrestling coach in the nation, couldn't retain a successful gymnastics or track coach hire a third Football Coach? He gets no credit for Fred, I could have gotten Fred to come here if I were the AD.
The problem with arguing with idiots like you and littletinyovercompensatingguns is you bring us down to your stupid level and beat us with experience.
If you blame JP for the bad, you have to give him some of the credit for the good. Has never been a time where the health of the athletic department was higher. Revenues, ticket sales, facilities, coaching salaries, conference realignment, etc... I'll bet he has a few regrets but if it were easy it wouldn't be called Athletic Director - it would be called doosh-nozzle anonymous poster CYKOFAN / BIGGUNS.
Jerk wad of the evening...
I believe he got a $450k bonus last year and think he normally makes around $450k-$500k.
That said, I disagree with your bolded statement. Take a look at what he has done with the AD revenue...it's more than doubled since he started. He also has attendance (for all sports combined) at the highest level its ever been. I'd argue he is underpaid.
Thanks for the information, 450-500K a year makes a lot more sense. I've said in other posts that JP has done some good things, and raising money is one of them. I just believe that the explosion of tv money the last few years is the biggest reason for the increased money flow. But I think we all know that the health of the athletic department depends mostly on the health of the football program. If it doesn't get turned around and people stop showing up, as I said the whole athletic department suffers. That's why imo it's important that the a.d. has a background in and knows football. I know that's not the opinion of JP's supporters, but when some (not you) resort to name calling, they aren't doing JP any good.
Without looking, I am guessing Mr Cyco is a big Bubu supporter?
I have to wonder where we would be in terms of conference if JP wasn't or AD. Would the Big XII even exist - or would ISU still be a part of it.
I'm not trying to overstate his importance or pull within the conference. But I just wonder.
Conversely - if Bruce was still in charge I think we would be AA by now (only joking about 48.3% there)
You might say I'm a supporter of innocent until proven guilty, you know, kind of like the opinion of the County Attorney, ALJ, and District Judge. With BuBu working Fred's camp this summer, sounds like he's a supporter of the American justice system too.
You, cylove...both of you....GTFO. You take an already stupid thread and start talking Bubu in it?:no:
Just responding to the post addressed to me about BuBu, don't read it if it upsets you too much.
I love the don't read it comeback, the most lazy in all of the internet. You can have an opinion, but I can't have an opinion of your opinion. And, a dumb conversation doesn't become a dumb conversation without two people, unless one is a nutball.
he made that bonus one year. Does not make it yearly..he is in the 450-500 range this FY.
and were you really against those hires at the time? Hindsight is nice now...
and no he shouldn't have hired Fred the first time around...it's easy to sit back and actually believe what you post, but it really shows your complete lack of understanding,
Pretty hard to know what would happen playing the "what if" game. I can just as easily think that if BVD were still here we might have had a better situation in football the last 8 years, who knows. But I often see JP's promoters putting down BVD, which is their opinion, but it doesn't make JP look any better. BVD won a national award for A.D of the year and we had great accomplishments in football and basketball while he was here. No need to put him down because the JP promoters just lose credibility when they do.
Kansas AD sends his regards surrounded by a buttload of trophies and piles of money from the non-revenue sport of college basketball.
BVD was awful. You might be only person I've ever seen defend him. His handling of Eustachy was inexcusable. Wait for days to make a decision and THEN fire him after Larry goes on air to admit he has a problem. We looked heartless and stupid.
