You guys can debate this all you want.......but I bet the policeman who shot this kid wishes he hadn't had done it now. He can't take it back now. Someone else said it, and I agree....the whole thing is just sad.
Gas? This isn't the SWAT team out here.Gas, smoke, taser, shoot tires out?
Do you see big city cops shoot every high speed chase dead?

They said it when they were coming by MWL and they backed off quite a bit. They also said it again right as the Ames PD officer pulled up to the front of the truck after he spun around entering central campus.Agreed - but that is what clinches the justification of the shooting.
Also interesting - I didn't hear on the audio for the dispatcher calling for the police to back off.
I think he did what he had to do to end a very dangerous situation, I hope he knows that too, I'm sure he wishes he didn't have to fire on the kid though. You guys can debate this all you want.......but I bet the policeman who shot this kid wishes he hadn't had done it now. I'm sure he's happy to be going home alive and he could have saved other people's lives by shooting him.
Who knows what would have happened if the truck driver drove off on another rampage. If he runs over a couple students, people would be mad that they didn't shoot him when they had a chance.
They rammed what was available to them at the exact second. No reason to wait for "a better spot". They can always ram again if needed.

I find it very infuriating these national "news" stories that are not telling the whole story and the idiots that read it are eating it up. I really don't know how anyone can argue this kid didn't pose a threat to the safety of the public. I feel bad for his friends and family, but ****, he was lucky he didn't kill anyone
I think when you see a cop car come just past the rear bumper on the passenger side, then swerve to the left, causing a spin, this is how they try and do it. The spin slows the vehicle, giving time to approach, but it can also trip that valve, I think.

Father calls police, police shoot son dead - The West Australian
This one disturbingly refers to coverage in something called "The Iowa State Register."
"campus of Iowa State University in Des Moines, in the United States."
